Reviews for Cherry Hill Golf Club
Reviewed Sep 25 2026
His approach is straightforward: build golf communities with courses that challenge accomplished golfers, welcome players of every skill level with multiple tee options, and maintain the kind of conditions that make the greens fee feel like a bargain. Having served in the Indiana Golf Course Owners Association and understanding the competitive nature of golf in a market with no shortage of options, Delagrange has kept both properties sharp. Together, Cherry Hill and Autumn Ridge represent a two-course itinerary that any serious golfer passing through Fort Wayne should have on the card.
Cherry Hill Golf Club opened in 1996 on Wheelock Road on the northeast side of Fort Wayne, designed by Max Robertson and Mark Slater. The 18-hole, par-72 layout offers four sets of tees and can accommodate everyone from the scratch player to the weekend warrior who just wants to break 90 without losing a dozen balls. The Bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens are maintained at a level that has earned Cherry Hill its Golf Digest Four-Star designation year after year. The course was also voted the number-one public golf course in the Fort Wayne area from 2007 through 2011.
Cherry Hill is a course that earns its difficulty honestly. Seventeen lakes are positioned throughout the layout with a menacing intent rather than pure aesthetics, and the rolling terrain gives the course a visual variety that flat Indiana geography does not automatically provide. Water factors in on a large portion of the holes, which means brains over brawn, especially off the tee. The number-one handicap hole is the par-4 5th, measuring 467 yards from the tips, a hole that demands a tee shot both long and accurate before a mid-to-long approach to a green that does not forgive a miss.
The signature hole, and the one that players talk about long after the scorecard is signed, is the par-3 6th, the only true island green in the state of Indiana. The entire green is surrounded by water, reachable only by a narrow cart bridge, and there is no bail-out. Pick your club, pick your line, and go for it. It is the kind of hole that produces both the most memorable par of a golfer's season and the most memorable triple bogey, sometimes in the same group. The 6th has defined Cherry Hill's identity since the course opened, and it earns every bit of its reputation. Combined with the finest driving range and short game area on the northeast side of Fort Wayne, Cherry Hill delivers what Delagrange has always intended: the complete golf experience.
