Far Better Options
I’m a slow learner so it took me a while to wake up and smell the coffee. I’d been playing this course regularly for over ten years. I played here blindly because it was close to my office and play seemed to move at a reasonable pace. But as changes continued over the last few years it was time to step back and think about what I was really getting for my money. Just because you charge a premium price doesn’t mean you provide a premium product or experience. I would encourage everyone to look around. There are way too many better, more affordable options out there.Course. Generally it’s uninspiring. While it’s adequately maintained, it’s what you’d expect from an Indiana corn field course. Few if any mature trees, very little topography and rough over-grown with weeds. There are creeks and water hazards, but few that meaningfully come into play. Water hazard maintenance is questionable. I have on occasion encountered people in golf carts fishing during playing hours, interesting. I assume that’s a member privilege.
On Course Amenities. I get protecting sensitive areas. But their golf carts, while functional, are so locked out of so many areas they’re extremely annoying. If you play with someone with even moderate mobility issues, like I do, this presents an extreme challenge. On course restroom facilities amount to two randomly placed poorly maintained port-o-let stations. If you’re “lucky” enough to find them, nothing is more inviting on a nice hot summer day than a hot, steaming, poorly maintained port-o-let. Especially for the lady golfers. I’ve heard they have drink carts on the course. Unfortunately I’ve never seen one. So, you’re left with their moldy/algae filled water cooler stations.
Clubhouse Amenities. I’d describe the clubhouse, pro shop, snack/bar area, restroom and practice facilities as adequate. Nothing to get excited about, but functional. Although I would describe the restroom facilities, the only ones on site, as meager. There are no workout facilities although you can for an extra charge join a remote pool. I’ve eaten here during a round and in the evening when specials were offered. I wouldn’t recommend either.
Staff. Staff is cordial with a bit of an elitest edge. Helpful if asked. But I don’t think I ever encountered anyone going out of their way to be helpful.
Tempo of Play. Yet another bone of contention for me. They don’t seem to control the playing groups. I was continually confronted with singles or twosomes behind us wanting to play through. Add the occasional fivesome and the tempo of play ground to a frustrating snail’s pace.
Price. While I understand things are more expensive, at $81 you’re paying a premium price for an average experience. I have several friends who had been members and have moved on. At $4,500 for a single, $5,500 for a couple and $5,900 for a family with uncontrolled pay, an average course experience and only adequate facilities it wasn’t worth it.
