Balfour Golf Course is a great course next to Kootney Lake about a half hour's dirve east of Nelson. The first 9 holes are situated on relatively flat ground (a plateau nestled just above the lake). The back nine is primarily in the side of the mountain and presents various challanges typical of a mountain course. If you do not want to worry about the hike up and down the mountain side, a golf cart is worth taking. The club house is simple but the people are very friendly. The grub is decent and the terrace gives you a nice chance to unwind (if the weather is on your side).
