What the club says: Pinheiros Altos was originally designed by the American Ronald Fream and borders the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, which provides a habitat for many species of birds and vegetation. Peter McEvoy and Howard Swan later redeveloped it into a highly original and distinctive course, with two sets of nine holes that possess completely opposing characteristics. Pinheiros Altos provides a real golfing challenge, where brain is infinitely more useful that brawn. The first nine winds its way over and through pine-clad, rolling countryside. The second nine drops down into a valley bottom, where intrusive lakes provide a test of accuracy and skill.

Some lovely holes...
Some of the holes are stunning, but others are fairly standard, nothing fantastic. Clubhouse was lovely, with lovely food as well after the round. The main problem was the hire clubs were terrible!Reviewer Rating

Played 20/10/24 was not expecting much after seeing some of the reviews as they have had a few problems with the greens but I was more than happy they have worked really hard on the course and the condition though not perfect was excellent played pines and corks staff really friendly and very helpful too all in all we had a fantastic day

Worth a visit
27 hole layout with three nines. Played the Corks and Pines. Generally good condition and lovely sceneryGreens were true and quick. Very good practice facility. Stop for a club sandwich, very nice.

Some really challenging holes
Really enjoyed playing the Pines and Corks courses (so missed out on "Olives"). I had a great round, so obviously loved it. The two courses are intertwined, so some walking between greens and tees was required but there are some very long 5s, 7th/8th on Corks are very long, so save some energy for them. Some of the greens and paths were showing signs of neglect, but overall in very nick. Staff and food excellent!!(Round played: Dec 2020 - Score: 90 Handicap: 19.9)

Great course, all 3 nines are different and some challenging holes. Greens in good condition. Long hitters can potentially get a good score. 8th and corks is a beast of a hole, a proper par 5. Food and drinks are good, staff are very friendly and accommodating. I go every year and look forward to it. Not as a big a name as some of the other courses in the area but well worth a visit.

Outstanding and challenging course
A beautiful and well presented golf course. Quite demanding with some fabulous but tricky water hazards. Tight fairways and lightning fast but true greens. Very busy in mid Feb so took 4.5 hrs to complete. Beautiful clubhouse; super views.Reviewer Rating

cracking course
Great condition and a thoroughly entertaining course. Lots of holes that you will remember! including the famous 8th hole on the olives an island par 3. club house is elevated and overlooks the course a lovely spot to relax before and after the game.(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 72 Handicap: 3.2)

Lovely course and facilities

A good all round test of golf
A very playable and enjoyable layout and would play again for sure.One thing: the category in my course ratings: "did the holes follow a continuity?" would be rated down as there seemed to be a bit of a mix within the nines.

Nice course

This course is made up of three loops of 9 holes. We played the Corks and the Olives.
In general, the condition of the course was very good. The greens were a little sandy but still quite quick and gave a true roll.
The nature of the two nines are very different. The Corks is extremely heavily tree lined with canopies of the trees narrowing the fairways substantially, although still giving some chance of recovery. The land rolls gently.
The Olives quite flat, but with large expanses of water in play on most holes. The stand-out holes being the 600 yard par 5 with a pond in play on the left for about 400 yards, and the short par 3 to an island green.
Service at the clubhouse was friendly and polite but rather slow. The kitchen was clearly overloaded with the number of orders it was receiving.
Would be very happy to play this course again.

Superb facilities; large putting green, chipping/bunker green, driving range with greens and pyramids of balls! Course was in fantastic condition. All holes were intriguing. Not very difficult or long so good for all handicaps.
