What the club says: Aroeira I is set in a 900 acre pine forest, Aroeira I is renowned as one of the best golf courses in continental Europe. Designed by the famed golf architect Frank Pennink, it has been in play since 1973 and has played host to the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997, as well as various Ladies Open Championships in its time.
Aroeira's second course is a Donald Steel-designed masterpiece with 18 holes contouring five large lakes. Inaugurated in April 2000, the course has five tees per hole, cementing its suitability for every level of player. Built to European Tour recommended standards, it has hosted the Portugal Ladies Open.

Another course that I first played in the mid 90's there has been many changes to this complex over the ensuing years it was well manicured and a great test of golf as I remembered it.

Well worth a try if staying near Lisbon
There are 2courses Aroeira1 is the easier of the two .the courses are not manicured like the ones on the Algarve, the green fee reflex this.we paid 45E,very good value.the courses are quite flat makes for easy walking.the greens ,for me ,were fast and challengingReviewer Rating

Unfortunately, the fairways were littered with unreplaced divots and many bunkers had not been raked by previous players. The greens were very good.
There is a small bar/restaurant on site as well as a small pro shop. Plenty of rental trollies and buggies were available.

- We stayed at an apartment on Aroeira resort which was very nice, no complaints at all 10 out of 10.
- The clubhouse is worth a stop after 18 for a drink/lunch.
- The golf course is a nice design with some nice holes, but it is looking rather dated.
- The tees are terrible without a flat lie, worst than a Pitch and Putt course
- The fairways were very patchy in places with no grass or just sand. Bunkers were in great condition.
- The greens are left very lush meaning they are hard to read and all different speeds with no true roll. They can't even be bothered with simple dew removal, so if you play early in the morning, hit that putt hard !!!
- The clubhouse is worth a stop after 18 for a drink/lunch.
- The golf course is a nice design with some nice holes, but it is looking rather dated.

The course itself is very enjoyable, interesting variety of holes that prove quite a challenge. The facilities however are virtually non existent, no clubhouse, 19th hole (these are situated on course I quite a distance away), and there are very few buggies which in the Portugal heat are essential!

lovely pair of heavily tree lined courses. Well tended for and well watered. Straight hitting rewarded by accessible greens. Good pace and true. Lined behind the tree line by some beautiful modern houses to ogle at during your round. Worth the trip across the fonte de Sul.
