As a visiting golfer I was made very welcome and was not charged for the round because the bunkers are not in use at the moment, but was told work was starting on them soon. To be critical, the grass on the fairways was a bit long, some holes worse than others and some of the green were poor. However, a very nice course layout and I had an enjoyable round, I will certainly visit again when I'm next in the area.

Some good points and some bad from my visit. The Guy in the clubhouse was fantastic really friendly and helpful. He was also honest from the off saying that all the bunkers were out of commission and parts of the course were a work in progress. For that reason he didn't charge me to play. I feared the worst still as I set off on my round but in the end i thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful sunny morning at Belford. The course is actually very nice. It has many wide and picturesque fairways and some very nice holes. The panoramic views of the Northumberland countryside are an added bonus. Yes the bunkers were unuseable but i was told that at the start and I'd prefer to play the course like that than suffer bunkers with little or rubbish sand in as I have at many other courses. The greens are also in need of a lot of attention but again Belford aren't alone here either, based on my experience this year. When i was there a number of people were around working on the course so best of luck to them getting it back up to scratch. Yes don't expect a course in great condition but that didn't stop me enjoying my round, and enjoyment is what it's all about, right?

Having previously been a family run golf course since its opening many years ago, Belford golf course has recently 4/5 years been bought and horrifically miss-managed to the point the locals don’t/can’t even play on it anymore. Lack of investment and no full time greenkeeper(s) has led to the demise of this once well liked course. The people of the village have no real say in the running of the course and many previous members have raised concerns that it has fallen into such a state. Being an honorary member once upon a time, my card/pass has never arrived in the post since 2012, it really is in a sorry state of affairs, moreover a waste of what was once a valuable asset to the village.

Please do not assume it was a lack of support from local poeple which lead to this demise, whom dispair at the running of the place.

Got to agree with most of the previous comments. We have a caravan in the area so this used to be handy for a quick 9 holes. first played it a few years ago and it was decent value for a tenner. Played here a fortnight ago and what a disaster this course is. Shocking greens, overgrown tees,neglected bunkers that were full of weeds and stones and poorish fairways. All
this with rough and grass cuttings up over my ankles made it a depressing round. Will not be dashing back to lose more balls even though it was only £5 when I was there. Come on Belford wake up and get your act together.

Played here for the first time in a couple of years. I used to be a member and it was a friendly 9 hole course, interesting to play and not too taxing for a higher handicap. It has sadly gone to ruin. Fairways are like rough and the rough is unplayable - in fact, you won\'t even find the ball! Bunkers have waiste-high weeds growing in them and the \'greens\' are brown moss. For £5 you can\'t get golf any cheaper, but to be honest you may as well take your clubs out in a field and practice there instead. To the owner- what are you doing to what was once a lovely little gem? Shame.

Played the course in glorious April weather and the views from the course were superb. The layout is good, holes interesting and the fairways and greens generous for a higher handicapper. However the whole experience was seriously let down by the quality of the course which is a massive shame as the place clearly has potential. Whilst the fairways and rough were were managed well (the greenkeeper was cutting them at the time of play) the greens were the worst I've played on (serious fungal problem or something - spongy and seriously bumpy - didn't look like they were been treated either) and the tee-boxes not much better - long and spongy.

First of all, do not waste your time and money attempting to play here!
I say attempt as you can NOT actually play proper golf for the following reasons;
The fairways are not actual fairways and more like the second cut of rough on a proper golf course … searching for your golf ball on a fair way due to long grass should never happen!
The rough will claim countless golf balls, it is like a jungle as another reviewer has stated. It’s difficult enough playing on the so called fairways but if you go in the rough, forget it! Completely unplayable if your ball can even be found which in itself would be a minor miracle!
The greens or I should say browns! They are a dead mossy mess with cracks and divots! Putting cannot be taken seriously at all, the ball would run more true on a crazy golf course. Why haven’t they been watered and looked after?! What do members and visitors pay their money for?
The majority of bunkers are basically gravel pits with weeds growing through.
The tees which are often only identified by the markers are not cut often enough, it can be like teeing off from the light rough.
To sum it up, a frustratingly, horrible, abomination of a so called golf course! I have given up with it after persevering for too long! Such a shame as only a year ago, it was a reasonably well kept golf course, with interesting holes and a pleasure to play. It has plummeted at an alarming rate in to a neglected hay field with flags.
To the owner, take an interest, spend some money and sort it out please. Until that time, I would advise all to avoid!

P.S. Don’t even bother with the driving range either, the machine rarely works, there are limited golf balls and you will often have to collect your own (if you can find them in the long grass). Total waste of time and effort!

Never felt compelled to leave a bad review on a golf course but on this occasion I must. Now, it is only £10 for 9 holes but I have honestly seen gardens in better condition. I do not want to come across rude so I will be objective. The fairways were more akin to light rough, full of daisies and dandelions. The rough wasn't too long but was full of grass cuttings. The bunkers were full of stones and grass growing from underneath the sand and the greens were dead, literally. The turf had lifted from the soil and was black with cracks everywhere. To use the course as a field to hit a ball, fine. This isn't a golf course though and anyone with expectations of having an enjoyed round will find the course a waste of money, albeit not much money.
