What the club says: Stocksbridge Golf Club is a small friendly club situated approximately 11 miles north of Sheffield.
The course overlooks the village of Deepcar, from its highest point, 300m above sea level, you can enjoy views of the Peak District National Park in the West and of the Lincolnshire Wolds to the East.

The club was founded in 1924 by a local steelworks for its employees, but membership soon became open to all. The course started as a nine hole course and was extended to 15 holes in 1982, the current 18 hole layout was completed in 1990

The course is best described as upland heath, is relatively short by today’s standards, but is devilishly tricky. The greens are small and tucked away, often close to punishing rough or heather (or both!) The par is 65 from the yellow tees, but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a pushover, if the wind is blowing the par may seem nearer 70!

Quirky but immense fun to be had. Very hilly, and a buggy is a must for most. Fantastic views to be had from quite a few holes. Not a particular fan of two of the longish uphill, blind par threes but they fit in well here. Do not be fooled by the short distance, this place will kick you if you do not respect it. Bar staff, members and pro are brilliant. Everyone is proud of the course, and takes good care of it. You can get some freak deals to play here and worth every penny. We were rained off in our first attempt (very unlucky with the summer we have had) and the pro gave us a half price return fee. You have to play this course. A sort of heathland which will enchant and frustrate you at the same time.

Nice course worth playing but....

First time playing Stocksbridge, friendly welcome in clubhouse. Small putting green and practice nets next to clubhouse. Was warned before hand it was hilly and got to say it is one of the hilliest courses I have played. You are rewarded with some stunning views when at the top of the course though. Some nice holes, like par 4 8th & 18th from elevated tees. Tricky par 3s like the 6th & 16th which both are uphill and play much longer than yardage, proper card wreckers. Greens a bit patchy but rolled okay. Worth playing the once for sure but make sure you've had your weetabix before it.

A pleasure to play it....

Played it for the first time on Friday 20/8/21. Made extremely welcome from the second we entered the pro shop to pay for the round. We were pre warned that it was going to be hilly. But wasn't put off. GLAD I WASN'T.... dont get me wrong I was blowing out of my a**e on a few of the holes . ( only have a push trolley) but well worth it. Some stunning views and brilliant downhill holes when you reach the peaks of the course.. Yardage of the course may look short on the card but can assure you with all the uphill holes it is'nt!!!!! Very challenging. In excellent all round condition and a pleasure to play it. Cannot recommend it enough and look forward to playing it again in the near future. A very big thank you to everyone connected to the upkeep and running of Stocksbridge golf club . Hopefully see you soon

This is a smashing Golfclub, the friendliest I've ever played at. Hospitality is second to none. The course is set on some of the most picturesque hillside in the country, with excellent views for miles. The par 3?s aren't easy and there are 7 of them.

Stunning views, but not for the faint of heart!

Has to be one of the mountainous courses in England, a lot of steep inclines including 2 long uphill par 3’s (many struggle to reach with Driver on a windy day). Once at the top you’ll experience panaromic views stretching miles and miles! However, what goes up most come down with the most elevated tee shots your likely to experience in particular on 3 and 18. The course itself is short, fairly open with small greens. Like many this isn’t a great winter course, played in late April and the course hadn’t recovered from the wet Winter experienced - still had 6 temps on despite it being the hottest day of the year, the greens that were in play had recently been hollow tined and top dressed so were pretty much unplayable. The course does need some ‘next tee’ signage, hole signage is very basic and needs an upgrade and the yardage markers are poor and barely visible (125 yards). All in all a nice little course to visit as a one off, but wouldn’t play regular.

Second time round, this time in the wind! A challenge as I thought it would be. Not the best kept course you could play, but for £15 well worth it. Some simply stunning holes, real challenge for any level of golfer. Recommend a visit, just to experience the hills and the factor they play during your round.

A really enjoyable 'breathtaking' round of golf, breathtaking views, breathtaking hills. Don't be fooled by the length of the course based on the scorecard, some really tough holes with steep inclines on the majority of the par 3's make them difficult, most holes seem to play uphill with the downhill ones significantly downhill. Played in lovely weather with light breeze, would imagine it can get hard in the wind due to the location. Course was generally good, fairways OK, but not really defined, greens ran pretty true although some have bare patches and don't look great. What makes the course is the design, the scenic element. Would recommend anybody to play at least once as you won't play many rounds like it.

Course although relatively short is certainly challenging for those such as myself playing off 28. The topography is such that you are either playing uphill or downhill on most holes. I live in Stocksbridge but was still surprised at the gradients played on some holes, although this does make for wonderful scenic golf. The greens were very well kept and fast when I played there in July and the fairways were still green and verdant. A fair but challenging course for golfers with handicaps at the upper end of the spectrum.

Hilly but interesting course. The excellent views across the peak district take your mind off the effor involved if you choose to walk. The 16th and 18th holes are quite memorable. Greens in excellent condition and a fair test of skill. Everyone we met both on and off the course were exceptionally friendly and so would definitely recommend. Cost only £12.50 each using 2-fore-1's and that counts as a day pass. OK if you have the energy!

Good quality course, quite short but challenging especially if the ball goes into the rough! Main problem is that it is located on a big hill, so LOTS of uphill walking, definetly either hire a buggy or an electric trolley.

Great views and some brilliant Par 3's. currently takes greefree vouchers on the weekends which i would reccomend as usual £37 per round is a bit steep!
