What The Club Says
Golf came to Newmarket when Colonel Harry McCalmont; millionaire soldier, Member of Parliament for Newmarket East and owner of 'Isinglass', which won the Derby and St Ledger in 1893, decided to create his own 9 hole golf course for his horse racing friends. The Links Golf Club, so called after Old Links Farm on part of which the course was created, was founded in 1902 when construction of the course began, but sadly the Colonel died before completion.
The current attractive and mature 18 hole, par 72 course of 6564 yards was designed and constructed between 1949 and 1952 by the renowned golf course architect Colonel S.V. Hotchkin, whose golf courses at Woodhall Spa, Ashridge and elsewhere are among the finest in the country. From a design perspective the Links at Newmarket conforms to his very high standards with the majority of holes offering great risk/reward opportunities to the better player whilst providing an enjoyable experience for the average golfer. As such the course is regularly used to host County and Midlands Region events.

A little bit special
We played in the Links Seniors Open. The course was in excellent condition, with fast true greens. The course is mostly within the Newmarket Gallops but with two elevated tees on Devils Dyke, which dates back to Anglo-Saxon times.Reviewer Rating

Seniors Open Day
Played in this event this week and really enjoyed the course and hospitality from the club. It’s a nice track, with trees to keep you straight and accurate. The holes that play over “The Gallops” where the horses train, give elavation to some of the tees and all in all it is worth a visit.Reviewer Rating

Great Day
Played yesterday(24th July) in Seniors open. from the minute we arrived to the second we left what a pleasure it was to be there. Well organised, extremely friendly. Complimentary Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, water and fruit to take onto the course, spotters on first two tees to help with speed of play. Course in great condition. End of round, off the course, fish and chips followed by Lemon cheesecake. All for the fantastic value of £42.00 a head. There are many clubs out there who should take a look and follow this example. A great day from beginning to end. Already booked for next year.Reviewer Rating

Dissapointing
Sadly the course did not live uo to expectation, greens and fairways very poor, greens had been tinned recently but that said they were still poor, shame really because the layout is really nice.(Round played: Oct 2019 - Score: 89 Handicap: 11.9)
