What the club says: Located on the stunningly beautiful Isle of Anglesey, Holyhead Golf Club offers some of the best golf to be had in Wales.

Enjoying fantastic views towards the mountains of Snowdonia and situated only 1 mile from the port of Holyhead, gateway to Ireland, the course is a challenging heathland 18 hole championship course with some of the best greens to be found anywhere.

A glance at the scorecard tells you that the course measures just over 6,000 yards in length from the back tees ( 6090 yards, par 71. 5208 yards, par 72 for the ladies ). Moreover, from a distance, it looks relatively tame with only one serious hill to negotiate. Look a little closer however, and you will soon realise that not only are the fairways extremely narrow and quite undulating but the rough comprises of much gorse, heather and bracken giving rise to all kinds of challenges.

Then there is the wind which whips across the Irish Sea. Yes, a real test of golf, and thanks to architect James Braid who designed the course in 1912, 18 very different holes to savour.

Enjoyed playing for the first time on our Tour day.
Started with an eagle on the first, , very friendly pro and the sandwiches at lunch time were memorable.

Love this course, highly recommend. Played many but this is one of my favorites. Challenging but not too hard if you keep it fairly straight.

An excellent experience

The course is a good test of your golf on a wonderful links course with great views. The club pro and staff made us welcome and it made for an excellent experience.

An honest challenge and well kept course.\The course is by no means long and there aren\'t any outrageous holes but it is a very well thought out layout that uses the natural land and stone/rocks to keep you thinking.

3rd time playing this course. Very nice but very hard in the wind. Lost the plot after my birdie on 3 but string back 9 helped. Keep it in the fairway it helps

I've played Holyhead twice now - and still haven't got the hang of it! It's quite a tough course, some bling shots and placement is key. It is, however, a pleasant golfing experience and I'd probably play it again if I were in the area. Greens were a bit iffy but otherwise I'd recommend.

have never played this course in ideal conditions. It's either been very wet and windy or blisteringly hot. Close to the sea but more gorse and rough grassland than a links course. Lots of variety in the holes. Lots of trouble on windy days.

Lovely course, looking a bit tired around some of the bunkers but still a great course with intersting holes. Tough in the wind though!

Played this course in early March, an interesting course, particularly in the howling gale we played it in! However our round was spoiled by a number of obnoxious members who seemed to resent anyone else being on THEIR course. Personally whilst the course is challenging its not that great, there are many, many better courses in Wales....England and Scotland.....and as you are virtually on the Ferry why not skip across to Ireland where the courses are so much better and the welcome in a different league!!

this is a really nice course with plenty of cliffs, hills and gorse. There are also blind greens and you have to depend on the direction markers for your life at times. it is a coastal course but large parts of it get a bit of shelter from the wind. Because of the terrain it seems a lot longer than it is. Very friendly club and good food.
