What the club says: Gatley Golf Club was established in 1912 after a group of enthusiastic golfers got together and found that part of the land at Waterfall Farm (still its current address) could be rented for use as a nine-hole golf course. From that time the course and buildings have been continually developed with the land being purchased by the Club in 1950 and so providing a private, mature golf facility.

Nice course worth playing

Contra to some previous reports this 9 holer is worth playing. Unfortunately clubhouse and pro shop was shut but member of staff (I presume) pointed me in the right direction for the first tee which is over the bridge from the club car park, first 5 holes there and then back over the bridge for the other 4 holes. Now I consider myself a decent golfer and found this course testing enough. No par 5s but a couple of longish par 4s and tricky par 3s. Course was in decent condition, fairways lush. The greens were a little patchy but rolled really well. Course protected by some tall trees and can imagine the course will get quite wet in places. If rumours are true that the club has been sold for development it's a real shame cos I liked this course, plenty of character about it.

Bearing in mind the recent hot and dry weather the ground staff have done a fantastic job as the course is in great shape, well done ground staff.

Tough Last 4

Good place to go for a little knock to loosen the cobwebs..

First 5 holes are pretty straight forward

Last 4 are definitely a lot tougher. You need to drive straight, (problem for some of us).

Greens are ok

Staff throughout club, very helpful.

Not Expensive !!!

Good course, not too busy considering it's a 9 hole course. First 5 holes are well set up but relatively simple, the last 4 on the other side of the train track are a bit more challenging. Great course for a beginner or higher handicap as there a few holes that offer a great chance of a birdie or even an eagle.

Friendly club

This was a game on a mid-week day in October. The course wasn't busy but everyone I met was friendly and helpful. The course is a nine hole course which you can just pay for nine holes if you want. The course was in decent condition considering the recent weather. The tees and the fairways were good, the semi-rough was a bit lush in places. The greens were poor, they had been recently sanded but did have some bald patches. The layout is interesting with a strong second hole dog leg left to right. The 8th and 9th are good looking finishing holes, although there is a walk to the 10th tee. Most of the holes have just one tee position.

Greens were in rough condition making putting trickier than it should have been, I assume this would be down to recent hot weather, but other courses played recently have been much better. There was plenty of sand, seed and water on them due to trying to get them back (understandably), but this did affect the round and scores as the sprinklers were on the green along with the hosepipes leading to them which stopped the balls and had to be held up by playing partners.

Tricky Nine hole course - plenty of challenge

A lovely well kept course. Some very tricky greens which are difficult for beginner and experienced players alike. Some difficult tee shots add real challenge. Lovely club house with excellent beer!

Arrived and no one at clubhouse to collect scorecards. Very confused on where holes were. Greens were ok but what do you expect in the bad weather. On the flip side was very quiet and didnt have to worry about time. Surprised how quiet it was because for £10 i thought it would be busier. Needs some work doing at course

This is a gem of a golf course. The course was in fantastic condition, very few divots or pitch marks. A true challenge for high handicap golfers and a course i cant wait to play again soon.

The last three holes of nine are interesting to play it the first six lack any character. The course is also suffering from the amount of rain.
