What the club says: Fortwilliam Golf Club is located off the Antrim Road at Downview Avenue in the suburbs of North Belfast. It is situated in an area of natural beauty offering stunning views of a tranquil Cavehill to the north-west and the busy Belfast Lough to the east.
Although not a long course, it provides a good test of golf as most holes have narrow tree-lined fairways and difficult-to-read greens. It measures over 6000 yards, Par 70.

5 Hilly challenge
The dominating feature of Fortwilliam is the hills. Book a buggy and enjoy the Challenge.

5 Good course if enjoyed using a buggy.
This is a course set on a hillside so a buggy is a good idea. We booked using WowCher and this reduced the cost significantly.

5 Played twice just to get the measure of it. To be fair it was very wet recently and parts of the course are in really rough condition. Greens are decent. The biggest disappointment on the fairways is the sheer amount of divets. Few members seem to replace them and it means the course is rougher than necessary. Also we bought a specific tee time but didn't get to tee off for 15mins as a large group of members decided to push in front of us. We were a two ball and they were two fourballs and a two ball. They were v slow and don't seem to let anyone play through. We normally get round in 3hr 15 to 3hr 30 but with the initial delay and constantly waiting on those in front, this was 4hrs 30mins. Too slow for us. Very very hilly course and slow play can be forgiven but a fourball holding up a two ball for 18 holes can't be. Needless to say we won't be back unfortunately!

(Round played: Apr 2015 - Score: 94 Handicap: 28) Really good value, course in nice condition. Greens were true and relatively fast considering wet condition. Several uphill challenges which makes for a good exercise! Great views of Belfast Lough and Cavehill.

5 Fortwilliam is a relatively short course thats plays longer than its yardage due to the uphill nature of a lot of the holes. In saying that though if you are straight off the tee, all holes are within reach in regulation. The course is still quite damp

5 Very tough tight course, hilly for those who have trouble walking, not a course to carry your bag, greens are superb and clubhouse excellent.

5 Pro shop is tucked around the back of the building, but once found is a great surprise, packed full of stuff and pretty large. The course isnt to bad to follow, well looked after, lots of straight up and down fairways, Very resonable green fees £18 at the weekend. We went on a wet damp day so could have been better. My ratings may not reflect the course on a nice day. Well worth a go to rate it youself. Also a very nice clubhouse.
