Get in quick
You need to get in quick, as it closes at the end of the year. The hotel is being taken over & the new owners don't want a golf course!!!!!!It's a crying shame as it's an absolutely superb layout, just needed a bit of money spending on maintenance.
Too late now. Another good golf course bites the dust due to poor investment.

Nice parkland course
Farthingstone is a really nicely laid out parkland golf course.It's challenging & quite tight in places, so it's not always best to take driver off every tee.
There are some serious undulations so it can also be a challenging walk, but this does lead to some nice views.
All the staff are great, if I'm honest the hotel needs a bit of work, but the golf course is well worth a visit.

First played Farthingstone last year and was keen to get back there again.
Layout remains the same, with some challenging holes, either through distance or narrow fairways. There are also enough opportunities for 'birdies', to make your round interesting.
Ground was still a little 'boggy', in places, but the greens were in really good condition and certainly sped up as the sun got warmer.
A good challenge and I think you can play the course many times before becoming too used to the layout, or bored with the round.

Fairways to close to each other,have to walk a gauntlet of balls from other holes.

I was pleasantly surprised by Farthingstone. I played many years ago & didn't have great memories, but I was wrong.
It's a great lay out with some fantastic holes, many of them tree lined & a good number of clever dog legs, water hazards & green placements.
It's a test for a decent golfer, yet I could see a novice still enjoying a round here.
For the time of year it was in fantastic condition, particularly the bunkers, which were superb.
I have to be honest, the hotel is looking tired & needs a few quid spending on it, but the staff were superb & couldn't do enough for you. However you have to balance that off against a fantastic DBB rate, which included 4 pints!!
All in all an excellent parkland course, just needs the hotel to back it up.

A tricky tight course in places and one you definitely need to avoid the trees with. A nice walk and a great design course, the clubhouse and shop are both excellent. Staff are very friendly and the cost of the visit is in the great value for money category. There are some challenging hills to climb so be aware for your level of fitness but a great venue to visit.
