What The Club Says
Bury St Edmunds Golf Club was founded in 1924 with an original design by the first British Ryder Cup captain Ted Ray. The course is set in 150 gently rolling acres of established parkland, with most holes flanked by magnificent mature woodland. The par 72, 18 hole course plays 6,676 yards off the white tees, making it one of the longest in the county, but the walking is easy enough. The nine-hole pay-and-play course is renowned for its outstanding year-round condition (no handicap certificate is required), it is less mature than the main course but no less attractive and is a perfect starting point for beginners.

Well worth a visit
Bury St Edmunds Golf Club is a well maintained, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed parkland course with strong practice facilities and a reputation for excellent hospitality. It's one of Suffolk?s more polished golfing venues, offering a fair challenge for all handicaps without feeling punishing.Course quality
? Layout ? A classic parkland design with mature trees, gentle elevation changes, and a good mix of long, strategic holes and shorter scoring opportunities. The routing feels natural and never repetitive.
? Conditioning ? Greens are typically fast and true, with well kept fairways and tidy bunkering. Even in wetter months, drainage is better than average for the region.
? Challenge level ? Suitable for all abilities. Low handicappers will appreciate the need for accuracy off the tee, while higher handicappers won't find it overly punishing.
Practice & facilities
? Driving range ? Covered bays and good-quality mats make it usable year round.
? Short game area ? A strong point: chipping, pitching, and bunker practice areas are well maintained.
? Clubhouse ? Modern, comfortable, and known for friendly staff. Food quality is consistently praised, making it a pleasant place to relax after a round.
Atmosphere & service
? Members and staff ? Reviews consistently highlight the warm welcome and professional organisation.
? Pace of play ? Generally well managed, even during busy periods.
? Events ? Popular for society days and corporate events thanks to the combination of facilities and hospitality.
Value for money
? Green fees are competitive for the quality of the course. It's not the cheapest in Suffolk, but the overall experience justifies the price?especially considering the condition of the course and the standard of the clubhouse.
Summary
? If you're looking for a reliable, enjoyable, and well presented golf experience in Suffolk, Bury St Edmunds Golf Club is an excellent choice. It strikes a rare balance: challenging without being punishing, polished without being pretentious, and friendly without being casual.

Not too tough, lots of interest
Scored low for practice facilities which are closed for refurbishment. New practice facilities look like they are going to be quite something.Reviewer Rating

Delightful 9 hole course
Our first outing to a proper course as previously we've played at Old Joes. And we were delighted. A very nice club house, good condition fairways and very good condition greens offering bowling green standards.Reviewer Rating

testing 9 hole
Course overall is in good condition although as is the time of year there are a number of leafs about. Tee boxes in good condition and the greens are of average pace and true. For what the club charges this is a good course and can help improve anybody's short game. Signature hole is the par 4 440 yard 6(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 78 Handicap: 15.7)
