What The Club Says

Founded in 1900, the Club moved to its present location at Cowbridge in 1962. Located at the cross-over of two water courses, the Boston Golf Club provides a parkland oasis amongst the fertile Lincolnshire Fens. By definition water comes into play at a number of holes and the course provides a challenge to both the beginner and more experienced golfer alike. The course measures 6415 yards, par 72 for men and 5535 yards, par 73 for ladies. The quality of the greens is renowned throughout Lincolnshire. The course provides a true test of golf for players of all abilities. To avoid disappointment, visitors are asked to phone in advance of their visit to ensure availability of tee times.

Although the length of the course and the slope rating suggest it should be an easy place to score, don’t be fooled. The greens are now among the best you will find anywhere and the tree lined fairways will punish wayward drives. Accurate play from the tees will be rewarded with a chance to reach most greens in regulation which make a pleasant change from needing to take a wood out every time. At 6415 yards from the white tees it is not too physically demanding. Makes for a good day out.

Pretty tight!

The course itself is set in quite a flat area of Lincolnshire so it’s easily negotiated by golfers of all ages and abilities. The head greenkeeper and his assistant staff maintain the course to a very good standard when weather conditions allow. That, unfortunately is only around 8 to 9 months of the year from April to October generally.
It’s not a long course either and you feel like you should score better as a result, but you don’t! It’s a very tight course with many trees on both sides of the fairways, or lateral water hazards.
You need to think carefully about club selection from every tee and unless you are a consistent driver of the ball, you might want to consider a club you can hit straight to keep your ball out of trouble.
The greens are generally quite small but beautifully kept as a general rule, although some golfers still don’t repair their pitch marks.
Average three ball times for 18 holes is around the 4 hour mark which is just about acceptable.
A lovely course to play in the Summer and Autumn (although leaf falls are an issue due to the sheer volume of trees).
Despite best efforts of drainage, due to it’s low lying position and clay based soil, the course tends to get quite boggy after moderate or more sustained periods of rain.
The bunkers are also a bit inconsistent, some full of sand and others only having a dusting over the generally hard clay base.
All in all though, a testing but equally enjoyable course that won’t have you taking days to recover from your rounds. A helpful professional and friendly catering staff complete the experience.

This course is very well maintained, fairly tight fairways and superb greens. The scope suggests a much easier course than it actually is!

Excellent course set on a piece of heaven surrounded by water, just outside of the Lincolnshire town of Boston. The course is very well presented with a great choice of challenges, from long straight holes that really do require cleanly struck very straight shots to a double dog leg requiring excellent positioning and all this while trying to keep out of the trees! Playing all the holes here will require all the shots you have in your bag, drawing the ball on one hole and fading on the next.
Don't forget to warm up on the range, chipping green and putting green before hand.
The pro shop is well equipped with all the usual bits and pieces we all require or may have forgotten.
The club house staff are very friendly and welcoming as are the members I have met. All in all a great place to spend a day.

Great place, great people.

My new club, green staff should be proud of themselves and the course they have produced.
Club pro was very attentive and lots of helpful advice.
Club house was just as good as the rest of the club, even with covid restrictions the staff were keeping it going as best as allowed, polite and pleasant. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome.

Old feeling course

The person in the pro shop was very helpful , as was the clubhouse barman. But the fourball of members behind us (who were more than 10 mins late for their tee time) and were making comments about us. Quite off putting on the first tee.
The course though was very well set out, and plays a lot older than it actually is. They were having drainage done to 4 greens (to be expected at this time of year) which meant you brought your ball in line and putted , pretty much down a chanel. It's not a long course, with a few holes drivable in certain circumstances. Overall a good course, best holes probably 7,8,9 & 10.
