Challenging course

This is a challenging course during the dry season but even more difficult in the wet season. Knowing your carry distances is critical and having the ability to hit a high ball is critical due to the trees and water hazards. Must have the ability to shape the ball both ways!!

Local Gem

Back in the day when this course was a par 72 it would have been fantastic but unfortunately with the Airport expansion the course had to undergo some serious surgery to establish a 18 hole par 69. That said there are some tough Par 3s over water hazards that can wreck your scorecard. Most of the holes are tree lined and have dog legs. So a precise T shot is always required. T boxes and greens are well cared for. The fairway grass tends to be long but we are still in the Wet season.

My Second Trip

I golfed here in 2013 and really enjoyed it. They required a caddy which was good because my caddy really knew the course and saved me at least 10 strokes. This time my experience was not so good. I started yesterday trying to call to find out the green fees. My hotel called 4 or 5 numbers but no one answered. Then I found a website with green fees which quoted the green fees for tourists at 2000 PHP. Golf club rental was 550 and caddy fee of 300 which is what I recall paying in 2013. The website provided an email address which I contacted to confirm the green fees. The email address is: [email protected]

There was no reply to my email so today I decided to go there anyhow today based on the website published rates. This is the website:

http://golfguidephilippines.com/coursede
tail.php?courseid='59'

I was very disappointed when they told me these are old rates and the current rate is 2800 PHP, which is about 3x what they charge resident aliens. They actually tried to disavow this as their website while admitting the fees were correct two years ago. I protested and was referred to the course manager, General Magnaya. (This course is on a Philippine air base which I like because of the extra security.) Unlike the previous manager in 2013 who was extremely gracious and did everything possible to insure I had a great experience, General Magnaya was not interested in making any accommodation, even after I showed him the email I had sent yesterday, and the five phone numbers we had called where no one ever answered.

This course is ok but I don't think it is worth almost $100 ( when you add green fees, club rental, caddy fees and balls). I ended up going to their driving range instead. There is a also lot construction work being done at the club house area. I would no longer recommend this course if you are paying the tourist fees.
