What is Bryson DeChambeau talking about now?

Bryson DeChambeau has always divided opinion. A bit like Patrick Reed, he is a Marmite golfer - you either love him or you hate him.

You never quite know what you are going to get with him, whether it is his thrilling attacking play and monstrous drives or the rounds where he spends 18 holes up to his neck in thick rough. And he is never far away from controversy, such as the two-stroke penalty he suffered at The Open Championship for improving his lie.

And he has been at it again.

In an exclusive with the New York Post, DeChambeau says he wants to see LIV Golf teams own "stadium" home courses and also wants to have the ability to play on the PGA Tour in addition to LIV.

He said: "My ultimate goal is to have golf course stadiums, similar to the PGA Tour's TPC Sawgrass model, with our teams having their own golf course as a stadium…. Personally, I'd love to be able to play events on the PGA Tour, too. I think that's best for golf. I’d love that. It's not an either/or mentality. It's 'can we do both?' I think that's where everybody wants to be…."

But it was the following comment that caused social media to explode: "There isn't a golf fan on the planet who doesn't want to see me play a big Tour event, and I get that. I'd love to go play events that make sense, love to play team golf, and love to play wherever they'll let me."

Bryson has never been short on self-confidence but it seems he misjudged both the mood and his own appeal.

These are just a handful of thousands of comments posted on X...

"He left the tour for LIV knowing he would get banned. Burned every possible bridge in the process. Sued the tour. AND passed on the Returning Member Program offer that was only available for a short time....And is still talking about playing the PGA Tour and LIV."

"Golf fan here. Zero interest in seeing him play or do anything tbh/".

"Bryson’s lack of self awareness needs to be studied. He thinks he is Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus wrapped together. He is more like Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson wrapped together. Not to mention, half of the tour thinks he is a freak show. Go play YouTube."

"Here’s one golf fan that does not care if you’re around. You’re not bigger than the sport, do what you want. Go be a YouTube golfer, you’re great at it, just not so good with touch and feel of golf."

"The PGA Tour needs more people like Ryan Fox, not more Bryson DeChambeaus. True fans want to see faster play with good sportsmanship - not increased showmanship and chest-thumping. Leave that stuff to LIV where it belongs."

"Golf fan here. Don’t want to see you do anything, ever. Play golf, have dinner, ride around in a cart, etc. Go be an influencer, throw hissy fits off camera, make your money, and leave us alone. Please."

"He was well supported at Birkdale so maybe that feeds his delusion. Find him hard to like."

"This is a question for PGA tour members. Would they want a part-time member who isn’t committed to their tour take their spots in events? Either get on board or don’t."

"Anything else? Free car? New house? You get to start every round -5? Rory and Scotty can only use kids clubs?"

"He actually thinks he’s golf god."

"Golf fan here. I don't want to see him. What an arrogant and ignorant thing to say."

So there you have it Bryson. It looks like you may not be quite as popular as you think you are!
