The Amazon Rory McIlroy documentary is a must watch
What a mixture of an update I have this week.
Firstly, what’s passed.
I caught the Rory McIlroy documentary on Amazon Prime this week, for those that haven’t watched it, give it a go, it's an incredible watch. I made the missus sit through it, someone who doesn’t really have much interest in golf. By the end every time a putt missed she squeezed my hand tighter along with a gasp!
The way it was pieced together was brilliant. Lots of fresh insight too.

If that wasn’t enough, a YouTube recommendation came up from The Masters YouTube channel where Rory talked through each shot from his final round in 2025. Another well put together piece of content, so another one that comes highly recommended - all gearing us up for the big event this week.
I’ve had a couple of lovely rounds at Felixstowe recently, the highlight was Saturday morning, 7am as the sun was coming up. There really is no place like it, no breeze, the sound of the sea gently crashing against the shore and the odd tweet of the birds - there is just something about that place on these sunny spring mornings that hits differently. With no breeze it feels a bit eerie, which is a vast contrast to my Friday round where it was blowing a hoolie.
A dash round in 2 hours and 35 mins and a +2 (74) was just what the doctor ordered following an 82 the day before. It's incredible how much the wind makes a difference on the links!

I’m also currently in the middle of a seven day golfing bonanza. Having played at Felixstowe on Friday and Saturday, Stowmarket on Sunday. I might actually rest on Monday as it's a busy week ahead...
Tuesday I’m heading up to Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Regarded by many as Suffolk’s #1 course - although personally I prefer the layout at Purdis Heath.
But that may change as the reason for my visit is to play the new layout and update our course feature here on Golfshake. Aldeburgh was a really tough par 68 - with 12 of the 14 par 4s all over 400 yards and no par 5s. But over the last year or so they have added some new holes to include two par 5s and changed a fair bit around - so I'm really excited to get up there and take a look, especially as I plan to play in their Open in a few months.
Wednesday I start to head north - with my first stop at Goswick Golf Club. Another course that has undergone some recent changes albeit not on the same scale as Aldeburgh. But this Regional Open Qualifying venue has introduced a new par 3 and again, I'm looking forward to updating the feature I first did a few years ago when in the North East on a mini tour of the area. It’s definitely an area of the country that flies under the radar in my opinion.
By this time, I will know if I am playing The Old Course for the fourth time on Thursday. If unsuccessful via the ballot then the plan would be to take in one of the other courses at the Home of Golf, but I'm keeping everything crossed early part of this week for the good news email and hope to be able to fill you in next week.
Then, if all that isn’t enough, there is the small matter of the first major of the year kicking off this week. I love The Masters. I love everything about it. The build-up, the course, the tradition, the app. I think everything The Masters does, it does well, I could even sit and watch the coverage from the range during Monday and Tuesday.
For those wondering, I’ve backed five players this year.
Justin Rose, Min Woo Lee, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth and Sunjae Im - mainly because I made money on him once, and since then he either misses the cut or finishes top 5.
That’s me for the week. I hope wherever you watch, and whoever you watch it with, it's an enjoyable week with some golf thrown in too.
