Sami Valimaki what's in the bag 2025
Sami Valimaki wrote himself into the history books by winning the RSM Classic by a single shot as he became the first golfer from Finland to win on the PGA Tour.
The victory also saw him climb to 51st place in the FedEx Cup Fall Standings, meaning he claims a starting place at the first two Signature Events for 2026.
Beginning the final day, Valimaki was two strokes clear after rounds of 66, 62 and 65 but a poor start allowed the field to close in. However, a birdie at the eighth was followed by a birdie at the 10th, with the two-time DP World Tour winner maintaining his two stroke advantage.
Max McGreevy birdied the 72nd hole to finish on 22-under while Ricky Castillo carded a magnificent eight-under-par 62 to sit 21-under. But Valimaki kept his nerve to pip McGreevy by a shot.
The birdie from McGreevy tied Valimaki, but a birdie at the par five 15th from the Finn put him back ahead by one, with further drama at the par four 16th, when Valimaki short-sided himself with an approach. A poor chip left him with a 15-foot par putt but he drained it.
Valimaki said: "It was a battle, but luckily I've finished on the top. That putt on 16 was huge. I heard the noise on 18 [for McGreevy's birdie putt], so I knew that I had to two putt on 15 and follow it in with pars."
