Marco Penge What's in The Bag 2025
England's Marco Penge continued his dream season by winning the Open de Espana for his third success of 2025. The victory secures his place in the Open and Masters in 2026 as well as taking him to second place in the Race to Dubai and ties up his PGA Tour card for next year as well.
It is all a far cry from 12 months ago when he kept his playing privileges by the skin of his teeth.
He began the final round with a four-shot lead but putted poorly and found himself caught by Dan Brown and Joel Girrbach. In the end, he finished tied with Brown after 72 holes and picked up the trophy after a birdie in the playoff.
He said: "To get an invite to The Masters is just crazy. To get in the top 50 in the world was always my goal because I feel like Augsta will set up perfectly for my game. Dan gave me a real scare and played really well. I want to thank everybody for the support I have received. It means a lot to me and to my family."

Who is Marco Penge?
Penge was born in Horsham on May 15, 1998. He showed talent in football as a child. He was a prolific goalscorer for Chesworth Rovers in Horsham, and received trials with Reading and Southampton. Influenced by his Italian father, Penge stated in 2014 that he supported Italy rather than England in that year’s World Cup.
Introduced to golf at age five, he became a scratch handicap player aged 13. In 2013, he won the McGregor Trophy, the Fairhaven Trophy, and lost a playoff for the Irish Boys Amateur Open. He represented England in the European Young Masters, European Boys Team Championship and Boys Home Internationals, which he won twice. He also won the Jacques Leglise Trophy three times with the Great Britain & Ireland team.
He left school at the start of 2014 to pursue golf full-time. Penge won the 2015 Scottish Amateur Strokeplay and lost in a playoff at the 2016 Internationaux de France. In 2017, he was runner-up at both the Spanish Amateur and the NSW Amateur.
In 2016, he won the Sunningdale Foursomes with his girlfriend and fellow golfer Sophie Lamb. They married in 2023 and had their first child in 2024
He turned professional in 2017 and joined the EuroPro Tour. In 2019 he won his first title, the Prem Group Irish Masters, and finished third on the Order of Merit to earn promotion to the 2020 Challenge Tour.
He was runner-up at the 2022 Kaskada Golf Challenge before securing two titles in 2023 including the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final to top the Order of Merit and earn promotion to the 2024 DP World Tour.
In his third start, he tied for fourth at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa. He would go on to finish 110th in the 2024 Race to Dubai, keeping his card by the skin of his teeth.
In December 2024, Penge received a three-month ban from competing in DP World Tour events for breaching the tour's "Integrity Programme" in relation to betting on golf tournaments. From 2022 to 2023, he had placed bets with an average stake of £24. He made a profit of around £250 on these wagers, and the bookmaker subsequently notified the tour of his activity. None of Penge's bets were placed on tournaments in which he played.
After his return from suspension, Penge emerged with a new focus. He finished third at the South African Open in March. The following month, he shot 17-under 271 to win the Hainan Classic. It was his first win in his 47th start and he has continued with that excellent form all season. This was his 62nd start on the DP World Tour and his third win of 2025. He won the Hainan Classic in April, the Danish Championship in August and now the Spanish Open. He also finished second at the Scottish Open, tied sixth at the British Masters, tied eighth at the European Masters and tied 11th at the BMW International Open. He is second in the Race to Dubai and has already secured a PGA Tour card for 2026.
