Grant Forrest gave the home fans plenty to cheer about as he claimed his second DP World Tour title by four shots at the Nexo Championship. The Scot’s previous success came at the Hero Open at Fairmont St Andrews - and he was understandably thrilled.

At the end of a tough four days, Forrest closed with a 72 for a total of 280, eight under par. He was one of only nine players who finished under par at Trump International, a course that provided a proper test all week.

Forrest said: "It's amazing, just speechless. I think it is the same week as I won four years ago on the calendar so just amazing, that must say something about this week and being at home.

"It was a tough day out there today, didn't play my best stuff at all but made a lot of good par saves on the front nine. Obviously I was pretty nervous coming down the last there - there was no chance that tee shot was going right with the red stakes.

"I just can't believe it. It's been such a tough year on the golf course. It's just a crazy game that you can go and come out and do this, with what feels out of nowhere.

"It certainly has turned my season around. I was way down the rankings a couple of months ago, tried to play a bit better but at this stage of the season, I was right on the bubble. It's just that old chestnut that one week can turn things around and it has."

The Scot was in dominant form over the weekend in tough conditions to secure his first success since landing the Hero Open at Fairmont St Andrews four years and two days ago.

His fourth-round lead was quickly reduced to two but once he carded his first birdie at the fourth, along with Todd Clements stumbling to a triple bogey at the same hole, to open a five-shot advantage, Forrest never looked back.

He finished four ahead of Joe Dean who parred the last to claim second place, with Kristoffer Reitan in third place doing his Ryder Cup hopes no harm at all.

He turned professional in late 2016. Forrest made his professional debut at the 2016 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, finishing tied for 41st place. He played on the Challenge Tour in 2017 with a best finish of tied for second place in the Hainan Open and finished 34th in the Order of Merit.

Forrest played on the Challenge Tour again in 2018. In May he reached the final of the Andalucia Matchplay, losing to Liam Johnston in the final. The following month he lost to Stuart Manley in a playoff at the Hauts de France Golf Open. He was runner-up for the third time in the Hainan Open in October and finished seventh in the Order of Merit to earn a place on the 2019 DP World Tour.

Forrest finished 94th in the 2019 Race to Dubai and 72nd in 2020, with five top-10 finishes over the two seasons.

In July 2021, Forrest was in contention to win the Irish Open but after a par-five at the 17th hole and a double-bogey six at the final hole he finished in a tie for fourth place. The following month he won the Hero Open at Fairmont St Andrews by one stroke from James Morrison after closing with two birdies.

He began the Nexo Championship in 113th place in the Race to Dubai after a poor season that featured five missed cuts and a best finish of tied 13th at the KLM Open. The win takes him to 27th place in the Race to Dubai.

This was his 183rd start and his second win, with four thirds and 15 top 10s.

He represents the Renaissance Club, home of the Scottish Open.
