Xander Schauffele What's in The Bag 2025
Xander Schauffele put a disappointing few months behind him by winning the Baycurrent Classic in Japan for his first victory since the 2024 Open Championship.
He closed out with a fabulous 64 to end the week on 19 under par, one shot ahead of fellow American Max Greyserman, who was also second here 12 months ago as he continues to look for his first PGA Tour title.
The US Ryder Cup player carded eight birdies in benign conditions and he admitted afterwards he had begun to have doubts about ever getting back to his best after an injury-hit 2025. He was sidelined for over two months at the start of the year after suffering an intercostal strain and a cartilage tear, and he has played a fairly-limited schedule since returning to action.
"I definitely had doubts," he said. "I think every player in any sport at some point in time you feel like you're on top of the world and then you feel like, not that you've lost it but you feel less confident.
"I have a really good team around me, they pick me up when I'm down. You know, this is really special for me, and sooner than I thought, to be fair.
"I was running out of events in 2025 to sort of put my mark on it. I'm sure when I look back on 2025 at the end of my career I'll smile and think it was a great year.
"It's nice to end this year with a bang. You know, I turn 32 this month so hopefully I catch some stride or get into a good stride here into my mid-30s."
Greyserman came within inches of holing out from 182 yards at the last as he returned a 65 which ensured outright second place ahead of Michael Thorbjornsen, with both denied their maiden PGA Tour titles by the composed Schauffele.
"Max and Michael played very solid golf," added Schauffele, who has now won twice in Japan having claimed Olympic gold in Tokyo four years ago.
"We were neck and neck through 15, 16 holes, then Max almost holed out on the last hole. It was a very satisfying win because they're great players."
England’s Matt Wallace closed with a 67 to post a top-10 finish on 11-under, while Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard were a shot further back along with Schauffele's Ryder Cup team-mate Collin Morikawa.
Player Profile

Xander Schauffele was born in San Diego on October 25, 1993.
His father, who was a world-class decathlete, was his only swing coach throughout much of his golf career, but Chris Como has taken on that role in recent years.
Schauffele was the individual winner of the 2011 California State High School Championship. After graduating from high school, Schauffele played his freshman year in college at California State University. He won the 2014 California State Amateur Championship, beating Beau Hossler.

In 2016 he played a full season on the Web.com Tour, finishing 26th in the money list to narrowly miss out on a PGA Tour card but he would gain his playing rights by finishing 15th on the Finals money list (excluding the 25 regular-season graduates).
In 2017 he finished fifth at the US Open and would go on to win the Greenbrier Classic. He also qualified for the Tour Championship, where he birdied the final hole to claim his second success and finish third in the FedEx Cup. He was also named rookie of the year.
In 2018 he joined the DP World Tour and when he won the WGC-HSBC Champions he climbed to fourth in the Race to Dubai. Schauffele entered the European Tour final event, the DP World Tour Championship in fifth position. With a final round score of 6-under-par 66, Schauffele finished T16. This ensured a season-ending fourth position on the Order of Merit.
In January 2019, he won the Tournament of Champions, returning a course record equalling 11-under-par 62 in the final round to pass Gary Woodland, who he had trailed by five shots entering the final round.
In April that year, Schauffele tied for second at The Masters, one shot behind Tiger Woods. It was his third top-five in eight starts at major championships. In June, he finished tied for third at the US Open at Pebble Beach. In December he was a member of the US team that won the Presidents Cup.
In August 2021, Schauffele recorded a final-round of 67 to win the Olympic golf medal. He was also a member of the US team that thrashed Europe in the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
In June 2022 he won the Travelers Championship and followed it a few weeks later by claiming the Scottish Open.
In March 2024 he led the Players Championship but had to settle for finishing in a tie for second behind Scottie Scheffler. And the week before the US PGA Championship he also led the Wells Fargo Championship after 54 holes but this time lost out to Rory McIlroy.
He finally won his first major at the 2024 US PGA Championship. It was his 175th start and his eighth victory. He followed it two months later with his second major, strolling to victory at The Open.
He has now made 200 PGA Tour starts, winning 10 times, making the cut 177 times. Schauffele also has 15 runner-up finishes, nine third places, 47 top fives and 68 top 10s. His career prize money stands at $62m.
