The Swing Plate Training Aid Review

REVIEW: The Swing Plate

By: | Thu 26 Nov 2020

Review by Golfshake Ambassador Mel Davies

The Swing Plate was the creation of a PGA Professional and offers a training aid that has enhanced the game of many golfers, from those found at everyday clubs and driving ranges, all the way up to the highest levels of the sport.

Portable and versatile, the Swing Plate can easily fit in your bag and is suitable for any surface, and is ideal for anyone looking to improve their swing plane and alignment. Whatever your tendencies or faults, through correct use of a Swing Plate and alignment sticks, it could make a significant difference.

Several useful drills are included on The Swing Plate Website and are definitely worth checking out if you want to improve.

Looks

Swing Plate

The Swing Plate looks very good with a simple set up. It comes in a handy bag with a spanner to adjust and tighten (not necessary very often). A very simplistic looking aid, but you can see straight away that it will give various uses for all levels of golfer.

Feel

The Swing Plate is a very well made and sturdy aid that will fit into any golf bag which is great. Easy to move around to get the sticks in the right position when in use. You really get the feel that this will last forever when you're holding and using it.

Performance

This aid does work in many different ways and is simple to set up. It has helped me with my swing plane and even more so with my chipping and pitching techniques. I swing out to in with the full shots, so it’s been great in my journey to get the club more neutral. With my pitching and chipping, my pro has been trying to get me more out to in, which unlike my full swing was alien to me, so again it has come in handy with improving my short game.

My pro, Angus, says: “It’s made Mel aware of the correct path that his short game technique should have against his long game technique. Ongoing it will always help Mel revisit what needs to be done if returning to old habits.”

Verdict

Pros

Very simple to set up and use and it can be used in so many effective ways, whether it be for full swings, chips or even putting. A really great training aid.

Cons

None!

The Bottom Line

Swing Plate

The Swing Plate is a fantastic aid that will really help all levels of golfer, this is evident in the fact that Amy Boulden (recent winner on the LET has been using it, and Liam James (Matt Wallace's coach) has also been using it, both becoming Swing Plate Ambassadors. It was also spotted at Augusta National during the recent Masters. I believe that at just over £50 with all its various uses it offers great value.

Rated 9/10
