Bagboy Quad XL Trolley Review

By: | Tue 20 Dec 2016

Golfshake ambassador Andrew Picken recently, November 2016, tested out the Bagboy Quad XL Trolley which is a compact four wheel push trolley packed with features.  Find out how he got on.

In 1946 Bruce Williamson and E. Roy Jarman formed the Jarman-Williamson Company and manufactured the first Bag Boy push trolley from sand castings and aluminum tubing. It was made from two lawn mower wheels with flat tyres mounted on a folding, spring suspension chassis that could be attached to a golf bag.

Today the Bag Boy range includes two, three and four wheel trolleys. The award-winning trolleys include the new Quad Electric trolley series, Quad XL four-wheel trolley, Riksha ‘Original Two Wheel’ trolleys and rental trolleys.

Tech Specs – Quad XL four wheelcart

Today's test was the Quad XL four-wheel trolley, which is both stand and trolley-bag friendly.  Key features include:

  • Stand and cart bag friendly upper bag bracket with adjustable support arms lock the golf bag into place.
  • Durable handlebar grip smart phone holder.
  • Easy one-step handle adjustment accommodates golfers of all heights.
  • Oversized storage bag
  • Super compact for storage and transportation.
  • Lightweight, solid foam maintenance free tyres.
  • Integrated beverage holder.
  • Tee and ball marker holder.
  • Umbrella holder.
  • Folds down to 41cm x 61cm x 43cm
  • Weight – 7.27kg

The upper bag bracket with adjustable support arms lock the golf bag securely into place. It also features a durable handlebar grip, smart-phone holder and a one-step handle adjustment that accommodates golfers of all heights.

Super compact for storage and transport It has lightweight, solid maintenance free tyres, a drinks holder and umbrella holder. It weighs just 16lb.

Looks

I really like the look of the Quad XL. It has a solid, purposeful appearance despite its size when folded. It is compact and folds easily to fit any car boot, with the added bonus that it is incredibly light. The design means it can be ready for use in seconds, with no fiddly buttons or hinges to worry about.  The mechanism is simplicity itself and is a major selling point. Having four wheels also means it is extremely stable, yet maneuverable. There is a braking mechanism that is handle mounted. To keep the weight down, lightweight plastic is used and my initial thought was that it seemed a little flimsy, but those concerns soon diminished as I used the trolley. It is well-built and clearly designed to last.

Feel

This is a light but strong trolley, with a simple height adjustment, and is very easy to use. Maneuverability and stability are excellent and the handle grips are great.  There are loads of storage portals and the phone holder works well, keeping the phone visible should you be using a phone-based scoring app or distance device. The umbrella port ensures coverage of the top of the bag, keeping clubs bone dry even in the heaviest rain.

Performance

I liked the trolley. It perfectly compliments the revolver golf bag which it holds firmly in place. If  you are in the market for a push trolley this one is well worth considering.

The build quality is good. It is light, easy to push, stable and solid and easy to use even on a soggy golf course.

Pros

Small when folded. Easy to operate, light, stable and well built. with an easy-to-operate braking system. The wheels are well made, need no maintenance free and are very light. It is easy to clean and operate. This is a trolley made by golfers for golfers, and I loved it.An added bonus is that if you are looking for trolley to fit inside a travel bag with your clubs then this could be perfect as the wheels come off easily and it will happily fit into most travel bags.

Cons

My only slight reservation concerns the plastic case, which seems light and a bit flimsy in appearance . I have no evidence to support those concerns but to give this unit full marks I would like to have used it for a much longer period of time.I treat my gear badly and it gets thrown about when travelling. If it lasts a full winter I would give this trolley full marks It is a great design and is brilliant to use with the revolver bag.

The price is listed at £199, but for this you are getting an incredibly versatile trolley, packed with top quality design features.

The Bottom Line

This trolley is excellent. It will suit most players due to its ease of use and lack of maintenance issues. It is beautifully designed.

It is well built, well designed and I would happily use it long term. The colour scheme is attractive and functional. It cleans easily despite some really heavy ground conditions when tested.

Rated 9 out of 10.
