What The Club Says

The Old course has evolved over 100 years and its natural contours and the absence of bunkers give it a special character which is seldom repeated elsewhere. The numerous humps and hollows around the greens test the golfers ability to play a variety of shots - often in difficult conditions.

In general the course is recovering from the drought... Some greens have suffered quite badly, but they are improving.

Course is in prime summer condition... Upland links is a rare golf course type but this is it! Thanks to the greens staff for all there efforts especially the watering by bowser.

Played here for the first time whilst visiting the area from out of town. Interesting course in that it's based on the common itself so you share it with all sorts of different folk, most of whom are aware of your presence and will make allowances. Course itself is almost like an inland links in set up and for most holes it's pretty difficult to lose it off of the tee. Greens were however very firm and it was almost impossible to hold them, possibly as a result of the lack of recent rain. It was pretty windy on the day I played which made it a proper challenge. Other than that it was worth playing and excellent value at £20 on a Wed afternoon. Excellent pub next to it for food and drink before or after as you need.

Minchinhampton Old Course has wonderful 360 degree views from this elevated common, and it is a golfing education reflecting bygone years. As Gary Player would often say when visiting a club, it is the best of its kind.

The course was in good winter order... given all the rain we have had... all greens were in play.

The Old Course was in fine winter condition today, greens exceptionally good. On a cold wintery day the most disappointing thing was the pace of play which was awful...we had to wait on every tee for several minutes. Several groups behind us walked off in disgust!!

Not worth the money

Played this course recently but will not play it again.
The greens were awful with bare rough patches making putting a lottery, Cow muck on the fairways, not nice when your ball rolls in it!. If your ball rolls into the rough you probably won’t find it.

excellent heathland experience

The new holes on the course are bedding in nicely, will be good to see the course again to see how it's further developed. Thoroughly enjoyable course, and busy but without a pace of play issue. Amazing new clubhouse funded by HS2!

common land golf

played cleeve, painswick and minchampton old over 2 days, staying in cheltenham for a cheap and cheerful golf break. Minch is the easiest of the bunch in terms of the walk, but good fun. Make sure you check your directions, as the other minchampton course is somewhere completely different!
