Was charged £38 for a green fee for the spitfire course. The fairway grass was as long as the second cut of rough at most average courses and easily lost a ball. The first cut of rough was so long it was practically unplayable! I understand if they are growing the course out for maintenance purposes but they should inform and reduce rates. It's a disgrace to pay that amount for a round on a course in that state. There are far better kept courses and cheaper locally.

thick grass
The grass wasn't short enough in fairway or first cut, and so second cut was difficult to find the ball. Then on top of that add grass clippings, leaves and horse chestnuts means a 5 yard miss difficult to locate.(Round played: Oct 2017 - Score: 87 Handicap: 13.7)

short course, tees moved forward
Fairways very dry with a lot of run. greens ran true. too many cross ditches make laying up imperative.(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 81 Handicap: 7.2)

There is a warm welcome at this club from reception, pro shop and bar. Good signposts around the course direct you for the two different courses - Spitfire and Hurricane. We played the Spitfire and it was in good condition - nice definition of fairways, greens a bit slow, bunkers fair. This is a course you will have to plot your way around to score well. The final par 3 is a fitting end if you have a close match.

Hurricane Course - Not overly long, but you need to hit some good approach shots to score well. Greens running nice and true at a good speed for this time of year. The last five holes are a good test to finish.

Some previous reviews have been a bit grumpy. We found this unfair. The only thing grumpy at West Malling was the barman serving the (excellent) food. We played the Spitfire course: after a worryingly bland first hole we found the course first class - lots and lots of interesting, demanding holes, attractively set out, and well maintained. Two lost balls in the water, but served me right. Will definitely come back.

Excellent course, certain holes are extremely challenging and the greens i found to be on the small side with quite a few narrow fairways although the rough played very well and didnt cause too many problems.
the water hazards can cause problems and definitely make you think about the correct club choice if you are not a big hitter. To sum it up i would say that the spitfire course is a thinking mans course with plenty of challenges on the way.

Played in a charity golf day which was very well organised....however I didn't like the course, difficult to find a flat area to tee off from, fairways hard as nails and if you hit a good shot you got some unbelievable kicks anything other than forward.....glad I didn't pay for it.....

First time played today and was quite impressed. Greens had been sanded this week quite a bit which made putting a bit unpredictable. Have played the Spitfire, but prefer the Hurricane

Greens were just hollowtined and dressed.Lots of sand on them which made putting a bit of a lottery.Course looked tired but will go back and try it again when in better condition.Not worth the £30 paid to play it.
