in My 2019 TOP 3
With all the rain , my course closed on a weekend, I thought I'd review on this site my favourites from last year.Horsley rates very high on a lot of fronts: Greens in particular always a challenge as they are so damn big (last year not their fastest) Fairways lush and well cut, bunkers dry, pro shop small but friendly. Locker room a bit dated by todays standards buy a lovley welcome in the clubhouse which is open to the public but it didn't bother us. Definatly on our list for this year.....if it ever stops raining!

So impressed , I joined
When my club folded recently my wife and I played most courses in the North Notts / Derbyshire region. What a feeling you get at Horsley Lodge, I wonder why more casuals don't know about this place. It will be a bit further to travel but we were so impressed with the layout and friendly welcome we practically joined on the spot.
Well done to the staff who convinced us to make the decision. We've since played each week and just love it

Disappointing
Had read good reviews however the greens were in terrible condition. Last of bare patches, was like putting on a ploughed field. Would not drive past such as Morley Hayes or Breadsall Priory to play here again, until the greens are sorted. The layout is great, pace of play, practice facilities, etc all great, but terrible greens at the moment. And quite a bit of construction ongoing around the course.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 94 Handicap: 15.9)

Excellent challenge
Course was in immaculate condition, greens running true and fairways nice and dry despite recent rainfall. Many stand out holes, including 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17. Plenty of water hazards around to catch you out. Risk and reward options to consider, proper course management required. Nice food served post round. Driving range and putting green in very good condition for pre-round warm up. Excellent value for money on society deal.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 103 Handicap: 20 )

A Different Class
4 of us had a great round. Tough test of golf this, but it's a really mature course now...the trees seem to have grown 20 ft. I've not played it for some time but the greens are true and the whole place has an air of understated quality. Exceptionally friendly staff in the clubhouse (something you never get at private clubs) always feel unwelcome at many of these!Well done for the whole presentation from start to finish with a pint of Horsley Pale Ale what can be better on a September afternoon?

Great as ever
Greens true but slow. Occasional bare patches. Still suffering slightly from last years dry weather. Nevertheless, still good but slightly overpriced for the area.Reviewer Rating

Considerably improved
The course has improved from its early season conditioning and the members are happy with the work being done by the hardworking ground staff. The greens are moving back to their excellent conditioning and the fairways have much more definition as the weather had improved enough to allow more cutting. Lots of good communication (and hard work) from the greens staff to the membership.Definitely back on track following a disappointing visit early in the year. Would definitely benefit from improved practice range facilities as they are now looking tired and do not compare favourably with others close by.(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 93 Handicap: 18.5)
