Close House Golf Club
Close House, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, NE15 0HT United Kingdom
Close House Golf Course was originally built as a nine hole course in 1964 by Newcastle University for the use of staff and students and was extended to 18 holes in the early eighties. The mansion house and golf course were bought from the university in 2004 by Graham Wylie, founder of Sage and TSG and has since seen substantial investment, to make Close House the premier location in the North East not only for golf but also for conferences, wedding ceremonies and fine dining.
he parkland layout was re-designed and re-opened in June 2007. It now has 18 USGA specification greens, is 6000 yards in length and a par 70 from the medal tees. The undulating greens provide a real test for your putting skills, but accuracy off the tee is paramount for good scoring, Having already held its first PGA Professional event in September 2007 the course has proved challenging to golfers of all abilities. Major improvement on the course over the last few years. Fantastic new clubhouse and driving range. Greens are very good; undulating with varying levels. Quite expensive, but a nice course.

£20 PP for winter open a little pricey. Thats prob why Only 7 teams entered. For better to have 22 teams at £50 per team I'd say. Course in great condition but greens hollow tinned. £20 a lot to be in winter for tinned greens. Bacon roll and coffee were delicious though.

Greens are great considering some are less than a year old. Semi rough is a challenge!

The course has underone a major programme of improvements and after almost a fulll summer of the new layout being ipen, the course is bearing up well.
It will only get better with time, as the greeens bed in. They are all brand new and have benn built to exacting PGA standards.
The downside is the cr@p approach road and parking facilities.
The clubhouse, athlough small, is welcoming and the John Smiths is a treat. Plansa re in place for a new clubhouse, but the timescale is not cast in concrete.
