What the club says: Close House Golf Course was originally built as a nine hole course in 1964 by Newcastle University for the use of staff and students and was extended to 18 holes in the early eighties.

The Lee Westwood Filly course layout was re-designed and re-opened in June 2013. It now has 18 USGA specification greens, is over 6000 yards in length and a par 70 from the medal tees. The undulating greens provide a real test for your putting skills, but accuracy off the tee is paramount for good scoring, Having already held its first PGA Professional event the course has proved challenging to golfers of all abilities.

The par 71 Championship Lee Westwood Colt course measures 6813 yards and spans 160 acres of the Tyne Valley. Renowned golf course designer Scott McPherson carefully planned the course around existing woodland to fit with an intended old fashioned design. After 4 years of being open the course has been voted into the Golf World Top 100 Courses of Britain & Ireland.

We arrived to play the Lee Westwood Filly course and the service was second to none and the staff could not have been more helpful. The course has every facility you could need and the course itself was in excellent condition. There was no rush to play as all tee off times are spaced out to avoid queuing up at tee boxes. Greens were in excellent condition while it is an expensive round it is worth experiencing.

Very challenging course that is well looked after. There are 3 drivable par 4's to tempt the long hitter but with water and out of bounds around the holes you would need to hit the perfect shot otherwise have to lay up with an iron off the tee. There are some long par 5's that are hard to hit in 2 shots expecially into the wind. Would defiantly recommend this course to anyone wanting to challenge their score. The driving range facillities are probably the best Iv seen yet.

With two courses to choose from in the Filly Course and the Colt Course, you really cannot go wrong at Close House. Both the courses offer an exceptional challenge of golf, with the Colt Course arguably edging the Filly Course. Of the course the facilities are second to none, and the clubhouse is the perfect place to relax after your round.

Stunning setup. Played Colt course in pristine condition. Short and tight, rough is unforgiving. Greens hard and fast. Some fantastic tee shots. Get a buggy as some steep hills.

Daniel F rated 4 out of 5 - Jun 6 2016

A well presented course with undulating fairways and greens to really test all levels. The fairways are beautifully kept with up to 3 cuts of rough surrounding them
meaning you're not unduly punished if you're only slightly off course. The greens were fast and true and with some sneaky pin positions it's easy to turn a simple short put into a bit of an ordeal. Great course and facilities but it's pretty pricey so it's not to suit all peoples pockets.

Nice looking course, played it when very wet so would like to play it at its peak, although I have heard they do grow the rough up very high. Clubhouse doesn't look much like a normal golf club, more like a bond villains house.

Played the Colt course , superb condition throughout , a real challenge , but that's what you expect
from a course of this calibre . The fairways played all of the 6308 yds. Club choice is always important , even more on this track as was choice of shot . Greens were true even and quite quick ,
The ball released smoothly on pitches and approach shots and ran cleanly on long lag puts .
An impressive course overall and I will return .
