1st visit to this golf course and was disappointed throughout. Firstly I got barked at by a member of staff with a huge sense of importance when I wheeled my trolley through the reception just moments after I had been informed by the young guy in the pro shop that this was allowed to gain access to the driving range??
The course itself was in good condition however the greens had recently undergone maintenance (spiked and covered with sand) which made putting fairly pointless. I understand course and green maintenance is required but there was no mention of this as we happily handed over our FULL green fees. I feel those that are not regulars at this club should at the very least be informed of such things so that a decision can be made if visitors would like to use the course in its current state.
However, the most frustrating thing about the day was getting behind 4 members who had no intention what so ever of letting anybody play through. As part of a 2 ball we caught up with this group on the 6th tee and then had to wait to play every single shot for the remainder of the round. There were endless opportunities for us to play through but we got the strong impression that these 4 guys felt it was their course and everyone else will just have to wait.
Won't be rushing back to Chesfield Downs anytime soon

Spot on!
Second time playing here with the Chiltern Breakfast League. Great course which is in fantastic condition, greens playing true and quick. Long course, with a bit of room for error but punishing if you go too wild due to it's links style. Brilliant facilities which are complimented by the members. Great bunch of guys up there, if I wasn't 45 minutes away I think it would be my next club!!Reviewer Rating

The course was in beautiful condition. The staff from pro-shop to 'On course Marshall were most helpful, were most helpful and obliging. A great day out. Thank you.

The greens were in a pretty poor state when I played and lots of the bunkers were under repair. Not as well drained as they claim on their website as it was carry only. I think its a bit expensive for what you get, nice putting green outside the clubhouse tho.

Challenging course bu local standards
The course is looking in good condition and currently playing fast due to the dryer weather recently. Near Rough is cut but don't get in the long stuff! Putter lifter on the greens to avoid taking the flags out; so we play it ?in? if it strikes the flag stick and rebounds within a putter grip away. No rakes in bunkers presently and a few are ground under repair. Putting green is large and excellent condition with flats and slopes so practice is appropriate and challenging. The Club house, Pro shop and reception all very recently refurbished so it's looking great. A very pleasant place to visit.Reviewer Rating

Always enjoy playing this course. Quite long but lots of tricky holes to navigate through. I have never played here where it has not been in great condition, no matter what time of year. Highly recommended.

This course is immaculate on a good day and when the sun is shining, gorgeous to play. The holes are varied and you never get the sense of going up and down or forwards and back like you do on some courses. The clubhouse facilities are brand new and staff very friendly. On the minus side it is expensive. £20 is high for a twilight, and no 2 fore 1 vouchers are accepted. Those new facilities won't pay for themselves I suppose. Of note, the yardage markers are poor. This matters to high handicappers and it appears to be a feature on every hole.
A very good looking course and lovely to play, don't overlook the par 3 course which is always in very good nick. You get what you pay for, and to be fair this is a very good track.
