Played the course after this months rain and although boggy in places and greens slow, still in reasonable nick considering the state of most other courses.
Played for 15quid each due to special offer which made it very very good value. Quite an open course with not too any hazards - all 3 of us played better than our handicaps which suggests this course is fairly easy (if golf can ever be easy), but still has enough about it to keep you interested. Perhaps in a few years when some of the trees mature it should get tougher.
Facilities were excellent and the staff (except the warden on first tee) were very friendly and welcoming.
Overall we had an excellent days golf and shall be returning when the weather is better and I think we'd like it even more.

First time I've played Chesfield Downs. Seems very open, but I can imagine it would be tricky if the wind gets up. Greens were reasonable for early spring and pace of play was acceptable, but I am aware a lot of societies use the course so you should check how busy the course is when you make a booking.

An excellent club with all the usual amenities. 18 hole course is well kept and of a parkland nature. Their par 3 course is very good and well looked after although you have to use the mats to tee off rather than the grass.

Thought the course played relatively easy as bad shots were not really punished in the way I would expect of a links style course. It would benefit from having more links style rough brought tighter to the fairways. Otherwise it was a good course with excellent greens.

Enjoyed the course, although was pretty slow - nearly always someone on the fairway & green... Very windy today though so much longer than it's 6346 or whatever. Will play again (mainly as we have a two4one offer ;-) )

Lovely course, with some good holes and the greens were in excellent condition. Only down point was our tee-time was put back 15mins to accommodate a large group who then held everyone up with slow play.

Built on the side of a hill and has some great holes. When it is windy it can make things very tircky indeed. Very good greens.

Chesfield is my home club...recently undergone a major refurb and now has really great facilities.
The course is normally in great condition and being quite open is a challenge when windy...which in normally the case. The only bad point and one shared by many members is the bad condition of the bunkers.

Undergoing a major overall of clubhouse facilities but the course is immaculate. Lush fairways leading to fast greens. Well maintained. Very few divots out of fairways & not too many unrepaired pitch-marks on greens. Several bunkers un-raked but thats not the courses' fault, it's the users! Quite heavily bunkered course & they are well positioned, catching wayward tee-shots & approaches! Several holes have water hazards, brroks were dry today but you wouldn't want to play out & ruin your club! Nice pond on par 3 3rd (also catches any sliced 2nd hole tee shot). Not completely sure that the yardage markers were correct as we seemed to be overhitting? But all in all a fantastic golf course that is great value at £11:50 with 'Greenfree' vouchers. £23:00 without. Buggies £22 but with 'Sat-nav'.

The course is some 20 odd years old and is heathland in nature, although the often strong winds give it a links like feel. There are many smallish trees, but you will normally have a shot if you miss the fairway; although make sure you avoid the elephant grass in late spring/summer!
I've seen reviews refer to the course as bland, which I can understand to some extent. However, the course is in immaculate condition all year round, as it benefits from excellent drainage, and it is set in beautiful open countryside. The greens are some of the best in Hertfordhire to play on.
Chesfield Downs is a good challenge for all golfers. The back tees make it even more challenging, especially on the par 3s.
There is also a very good short par 3 course and a good driving range.
Highly recommended all year round.

front nine ok, back nine boring. will be good when the course grows older. Try not to hit crop spraying plane as it lands/takes off.
