I echo Eric W's comments - I have always enjoyed playing here but this year was beyond a trial! It is a shame that the owners are spoiling this course and driving away golfers who surely have enjoyed playing here in the past. I do not think we will be back again unless drastic course management is undertaken.

Eleven of us played on an initially wet but improving day in August. Our able organiser booked through Teeofftimes.co.uk who charged us £10 for the round plus £1 for the privilege of booking through them. We have visited Whiston Hall once a year for several years.

We were told on arrival that we could have had a bacon sandwich and coffee plus golf for £15 if we had booked through the hotel on site. We would have done that, but nobody was answering the phones for four days.

Several of us had a coffee and a bacon sandwich. The coffee was £1.95 for a small cup and was instant coffee. The bacon sandwich was no better, white factory bread with two rashers of bacon which, if sliced any thinner would have been see through (some praise, the bacon was lovely and crispy!).

The course was worse than last year. All the bunkers are now classed as GUR. The tees are terrible. Grass cutting seems to have been reduced to a minimum. Some fairways are a lot narrower than last year, the grass is now left uncut between and under trees, slowing down the game considerably for golfers of our standard.

Yes, the course is still beautiful with gorgeous views of Staffordshire, but the maintenance and organisation is sadly lacking.

The best feature of this course is the views, the fairways were long greens slow so many blind shots, no signs to navigate from hole to hole, few yardage markers very disappointed. Would not return

I have played some bad courses before, but this is definitely the worst. Doesn't deserve golf club status.

I posted a review on this course previously and since the last time i played there it has new owners. The signs all say £15 per round for visitors which I expected to be excellent value for money since the promise of some serious improvements were meant to be underway. When we booked in to pay we were charged £20 per man for a 4 ball and unfortunately the quality of the course did not match the expectations. When i questioned the course/clubhouse manager why we were charged that much he was extremely rude and told me "If I didnt like it there is the door" I shall not return to this club as it gives no value for your money in these difficult times Very poor greens and fairways and tee boxes that resemble a ploughed field i would not encourage anyone to visit.

I WAS IN THE AREA ON HOLIDAY WITH MY 2 SONS.
WE ALWAYS TAKE OUR CLUBS FOR A GAME,I PLAY OFF 10 AS DOES MY BOY THE OTHER 11.
I PHONED AND WAS TOLD JUST TO ARRIVE .
I PAID THE WEEKEMD PRICE EVEN DURING THE WEEK.
ALSO I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO DISCOUT FOR BOYS .THEY BOTH ARE 14 AND GOOD KEEN GOLFERS.
WHY IS THERE NO DISCOUNT FOR BOYS?
BECAUSE, THIS I NO REAL GOLF COURSE , THE COURSE WAS IN A DISGUSTING STATE, GREENS UNCUT FAIRWAYS YOU CANT MAKE OUT.
TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THERE WAS A TROLLEY BAN SO I CARRIED A BIG POWERKADDY BAG ROUND A SHIT HOLE ,SORRY FOR THAT BUT IT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO AND IM STILL ANGRY.
BLIND SHOTS EVERYWHERE AND NO MAP OR SIGNS TO BE SEEN.
THIS COURSE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRADE AS ONE ,NOW BE WARNED

this could be a very nice course if some time was spent on it, greens and fairways were pretty long, bunkers had weeds growing in them, just some care would make it better
