I have played some bad courses before, but this is definitely the worst. Doesn't deserve golf club status.

I play this course often & would like to say that it is improving all the time. The greens are the best i have ever known them & now their is a map of each hole on the tees. The seperate clubhouse for Golfers is now taking shape but still not complete, all in all things are looking on the up.

I posted a review on this course previously and since the last time i played there it has new owners. The signs all say £15 per round for visitors which I expected to be excellent value for money since the promise of some serious improvements were meant to be underway. When we booked in to pay we were charged £20 per man for a 4 ball and unfortunately the quality of the course did not match the expectations. When i questioned the course/clubhouse manager why we were charged that much he was extremely rude and told me "If I didnt like it there is the door" I shall not return to this club as it gives no value for your money in these difficult times Very poor greens and fairways and tee boxes that resemble a ploughed field i would not encourage anyone to visit.

I play this course approx 8-10 times each year, but for some strange reason not for the past 3 months...wow what a difference 3 months makes. The course has been sold and the new owners have ploughed some money into it, in april the greens were probably a 5/10 but the other day they were the best i've seen them, not perfect but getting there probably an 8.5/10. the first 7 holes are tricky up and down hills and the last 9 wide open and reletivly flat. I thouroughly enjoying playing this course and for £15 for a round who can complain.

The course is set in the lovely staffordshire countryside and boasts some stunning scenery. The course is now undergoing a full make over and being brought back up to the standard of old. They have invested in all new groundskeeping equipment so that the greens and the fairways will be in much better condition. Already after just a month or so the improvement is there.£15 is a very reasonable rate to pay for this quality of course and you can always be assured a warm welcome.

The course offers some challenging holes not least because of the unpredictable greens, though the front 9 offers some interesting and testing pin positions the recent price hike to £15 doesnt justify the poor green keeping.

I have a soft spot for this course because it's my local.
The first half is a rough-and ready collection of blind shots and hilly challenges, while the second half opens out into a more traditional parkland course. There is a wide variety of challenges and each hole is interesting to play.
The course won't appeal to those looking for manicured greens and fairways but for those looking for a fun informal round with some nice views, this course is good.
The price has just gone up to £15 which somewhat reduces it's score.

have played this course a number of time because it is fairly local to me, was decent value for a tenner a round, it has recently gone up to £15 a round which the greens not being the best seems fairly expensive so haven't been since because you can play some really nice course for £15 thats why i've only gone for 2 stars

I WAS IN THE AREA ON HOLIDAY WITH MY 2 SONS.
WE ALWAYS TAKE OUR CLUBS FOR A GAME,I PLAY OFF 10 AS DOES MY BOY THE OTHER 11.
I PHONED AND WAS TOLD JUST TO ARRIVE .
I PAID THE WEEKEMD PRICE EVEN DURING THE WEEK.
ALSO I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO DISCOUT FOR BOYS .THEY BOTH ARE 14 AND GOOD KEEN GOLFERS.
WHY IS THERE NO DISCOUNT FOR BOYS?
BECAUSE, THIS I NO REAL GOLF COURSE , THE COURSE WAS IN A DISGUSTING STATE, GREENS UNCUT FAIRWAYS YOU CANT MAKE OUT.
TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THERE WAS A TROLLEY BAN SO I CARRIED A BIG POWERKADDY BAG ROUND A SHIT HOLE ,SORRY FOR THAT BUT IT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO AND IM STILL ANGRY.
BLIND SHOTS EVERYWHERE AND NO MAP OR SIGNS TO BE SEEN.
THIS COURSE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRADE AS ONE ,NOW BE WARNED

Having never been a member of a golf club before I was really excited about joining Whiston Hall earlier this year. However I am now realising that this was probably a mistake based on experiences since joining. I had to supply 2 photographs and 4 lots of personnel details as all previous info had been mislaid. The computerised booking system is a waste of time as it does not work very often. There is little day to day management of the golf business. Non Members are playing the course for free. The course has serious drainage issues. The bunkers are unplayable due to the poor sand quality. Pitchmarks are not repaired on the greens. Divots are not replaced on the fairways. On numerous occasions there is no beer at the bar. I have never recieved any communication from the club in 6 months to acknowledge my membership. On occasion there has been no facility to get food from the bar. The course could be excellent, and on a plus my handicap has reduced from 24 to 17/18 since being a member, but there are better courses in the area.............

Nice course in a tranquil setting. Not adviseable to play in wet conditions as the ground doesn't drain too well. Bunkers are bad enough at the best of times but these are made of poor sand which feel hard and are difficult to get under the ball. Cost of a round is about £20 which is a bit steep for the course but if you like the place then annual fee is only about £500 which is good value. Well worth a visit!!!

the crown golf society held a tournament for its members here. 17 of us went out. this is an extremely well designed course. it may not be long but it certainly has bags of character. However the greens were of poor quality, inconsistant and very slow at times. Again they had lots of character borrowing in all directions. The major problem realy lies with the fact there are no course planners available. there is no information to help you on the tee. some of the holes dogleg ninety degrees and it is impossible to know where you are supposed to be going. Also there are no tee markers to let you know where the next hole is. A very warm welcome by the staff and overall a decent round for anyone. all it needs is that bit of attention and this course would get full marks! Just to add another note there is no pro shop or anywhere to get balls, tees or accessories, so make sure you are well kitted up prior to visiting. In all a highly recommended golf venue with amazing views and a mind bending set up. well worth a visit at a great value price!!

So i had my first experience of a "proper" golf club. The first time i had strayed from the pitch and putt of my local par 3 course (which i never par!!). Whiston blew us away. Bunkers, real greens fairways and really friendly people willing to help out us beginners!
The only annoying part of our round was the signage to the tees. We got lost on numerous occasions and the course map on the scorecard was hopeless! We even played the wrong green on hole 6 due to not knowing the course!!
Try to walk the course before you play is the only advise i would give to anyone starting out at Whiston. The second time round will be easy!!

very tough first seven holes up hill and down dale if you make it to the eighth your in for a very pleasant return eleven starting with two par five holes on eight and nine. Undulating fairways make shot selection difficult for mid to high handicappers a good test for the average golfer.
