Did play in tough conditions and as other has said before me this course is suited to the lower HC.
The heather is thick bushy and hard to get out of (if you manage to find your ball.
Away from this it is a gem of a course. Lovely layout. Some very testing holes.
For this time of year it is in great condition.
3 par 5's in 4 holes on the back could really mess your score up. But as ever just keep it straight and you will be fine.
Id love to go back in the summer and have a look again, and maybe when Im a little lower HC too.

I play of 15 but would seriously think again before playing WH again as I think you need to a be a solid single figure player to really, really enjoy it. Apparently even the grass was extra long as there had just been a high profile amateur tournament which didn't help.
My golf skills apart I do think it perhaps lacks real standout holes although I thought the Par 3's were lovely, apart from the peculiarly positioned 1st hole which seems like its from a different course and the real course only has 17 holes? The 18th was a interesting finish with its banked earth wall at the back of the large bunker reminding me of the earth mound fronting the 17th green at Royal Blackheath. No surprise that James Braid had a hand in both.
Otherwise there is a nice set of par 4's of varying lengths which will require you to play every shot and use every club. For that alone I suppose the course deserves a good score. Also its clear by the amount of green keeping staff around that its very well looked after.
Finally a quick word about the excellent bacon sandwiches and the very friendly pro (Simon Peaford) who very nearly persuaded me to buy set of new irons just before my round. Keep that deal on ice Simon I may be back in touch.
P.S M25 was a bit noisy in places.

Classic heathland, stunning challenge
It is with good reaason that Walton Heath is so highly regarded. The New course is a bit more playable than the Old, more foregiving off the tee and with fewer fairway bunkers. But it is still a real challenge and you must play from the fairway as the heather is penal. Beautiful turf, large subtle-breaking greens. A real pleasure to play.Reviewer Rating
