Tyrrells Wood Golf Club Reviews & Information

29 ratings from Golfshake members

What the club says: When Tyrrells Wood Golf Club was formed in 1924, the original course had been designed by five times Open Champion James Braid, one of the most respected and prolific course designers of his day. Improvements were also designed by Harry Colt.

Although the course has undergone continuous improvement over the years, care has been taken to preserve Braid's unique approach to green and bunker design.

Tyrrells Wood is located on the edge of the North Downs and in common with much of the area has a chalk subsoil, which provides extremely good drainage. The typical downland nature of the area was transformed by the substantial tree planting programme implemented in the late 19th century, to provide a unique downland / parkland character.

The club is continually re-investing to ensure we maintain the excellent conditions of the course and the superb standards of the club house. Most recently we replaced the irrigation system, whereby we now have a state of the art system covering tees, greens & approaches.

Played in December and fairways were firm and greens far too fast for me. Well maintained good quality track and not a ball loser. Only minor quibble would be signage. Good value in winter.

Interesting course with lots of slopes so a flat lie is rare. Well maintained and being on chalk it is a course that copes well with water. Club house has good food.

Tyrells Wood is well maintained with fast greens. You do not need to book a T time as you usually don't have long to wait. You can start at the 1st or the 10th as both are next to the club house. The course is challenging as there are few flat lies. You need to think your way around the course. The club house facilities are good - the food is excellent and not too expensive and the beer is well kept. I can recommend the all day English Breakfast after a roung at TWGC

Turned up Pro Shop couldnt have been more helpful, no need to book we teed off pretty much as soon as we were ready. The course has plenty of of challenges, wish i'd have thought my way round a bit more but having played once now i know the layout a bit better and next time wont be quite as tired (having only just got back from Stag Do night before)

Have always wanted to play TW but a bit steep at £43. Then I saw there offer of a midweek green fee for £32 which is great value for this tidy course.
Lots of hills and sloping fairways means you need to be accurate from the tee. greens in good condition and quick.
Shop, halfway and hut and bar staff all very friendly.

Old Established course and clubhouse. Smallish Greens. Strage layout in that you are frequently crossing a road but its not at front 9, back 9 intervals. You cross the road at 8, play the 9th, walk up long steep hill to come back down the 10th and then cross the road again for 2 holes.
First and Third hole are complete blind shots, 11th and 12th run right alongside a main road (whatever you do dont hook it here).
