Water and long grass

Tee boxes very poor, fairways appear to be cut only in a narrow band. Land ball in first cut and you need to be on top if it to see it. Water on nearly every hole and mostly so weed choked you can never recover your ball. If you are a mid to high handicap save your money and play elsewhere.

I have not played here in over 20 years, I now know the reason why, the course to say the least is in very poor condition and has not improved. The dry weather can of course be given as a factor, but sadly there were far to many other things wrong to blame it all on the dry weather. The greens were the worst I've ever played on, old holes were not replaced properly, a greenkeeper worth his salt would not present greens in this condition. A lot of money has/is being spent on the hotel facilities to the detriment of the golf course. The pace of play was excellent, there was no one else on the course, I know it was hot but on a friday afternoon you would expect other golfers to be out.

Poor

Sorry to say but this course was terrible, the course is really weathered, tees are shocking, fairways the same, the greens are ok. Didn't see one bunker, greens weren't great, sorry but I wouldn't play here again. Now I had breakfast and the food was great, however we was back in the bar for a lunch at 14.05 and they closed for food, poor show on a Friday and being a golf hotel and spa. Shame as I was really looking forward to going to.

I find some of the reviews on here difficult to believe. Sadly, this is a course in decline. I have visited the course many times over the last 7 years and each time it is in worse condition than the last. Tee's are overgrown, fairways are frequently waterlogged due to ditches not being cared for, allowing the water to drain off. Greens are now showing weeds and signs of distress. This is a massive shame, the layout is good and it could be a great course. Clearly the course is being neglected, i assume for financial reasons. I hope they get some investment soon or it will be too late. I will avoid now, but will keep tabs on the place in golfing press in the hope of a turnaround.

The course today was in appalling condition, fairways were like the rough on other courses, the rough was terrible and the whole course left alot to be desired, terrible greens patchy and uneven, tees were down right awful with mole hills and huge craters, bunkers had very little sand and were very tatty with weeds everywhere probably more nettles than sand in each bunker, not worth the visit and certainly will not be going back, awful maintanace with a greenkeeper doing laps round the green whilst we were putting, in general a terrible visit!!

Course neglected - needs cutting as ball in rough means a lost ball virtually every time. Greens appalling, especially the ninth where the crows had pretty much destroyed it. Winter flooding had obviously blitzed this course as none of the bunkers had any sand in them!! It might be cheap, but just don't bother - better off going around the Bury 9 hole, unless you're desperate for a good walk.
