What a shame!
This could be one of the best pay and play courses in the South of England. However the current state of the course is an absolute disgrace. The fairways are particularly poor, but really the lack of maintenance is obvious wherever you look.
I don't blame the greenkeepers, I'm sure they're doing they're best but there clearly aren't enough staff to keep the course maintained.
I live in hope that the City Council/Mytime Active (whoever is responsible) will wake up and take some action before the course deteriorates beyond repair!

On the up!
Now the Council have taken over the running of the course it is looking and playing so well. There has been lots of money spent on the course and now the clubhouse has been refurbished. This course is on the up and well deserved as it's a challenging courseReviewer Rating

Mixed thoughts
Played here a lit last year and always enjoyed it. the combination of standard of course and value is unbeatable. However yesterday i was very disappointed by the state of the greens and fairways (there barely were any). I understand the lockdown may has effected this and for the price it is still well worth a visit however the fairways need to improve.(Round played: Jun 2020 - Score: 79 Handicap: 13.8)

There is only 2 green keepers to maintain 27 holes when 5 green keepers are needed
They have had ground under repair for the last 10-15 years on the same holes but nothing has vet been done

Bad condition
Played at this course a few times, always been in good condition. Played yesterday the course was unbelievable, the grass was so long even when you teed off we had to find some short grass. Fairways were so bad, won't be playing here again for a very long time. Shame as we have a small society and always enjoyed our games here. Hope someone at the club sorts this course out.Reviewer Rating

very poor course
this course is not fit for purpose, you would be better playing in a field .need to spend more time to maintain the hole course,(Round played: Jun 2019 - Score: 95 Handicap: 25.6)

Awful
Really disappointed in the state of the course. Tee boxes all overgrown. Fairways non existent, middle of the fairways were either dried mud or two inch long grass. Greens were actual half decent though. Fringes not cut.How can the club put their prices up yet do even less to keep the course. Things like cutting the tee boxes are small but no one wants to feel like they are teeing it up in the rough!

Expecting to not be able to play the golf course for at least a week, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get a tee time the next day (today), and although some areas were a little rough around the edges, it was a thoroughly pleasant round of golf, albeit one on my own. The pros? Fantastic setting considering it is still within the boundary of the city. It also played very well - surprisingly so - considering the amount of rain we've been getting recently, and it's quite challenge - having to think your way around rather than smashing seven bells out of the ball. There were a few downsides to being a tree lined course though. Foremost, I've never, ever lost so many balls in one round of golf - the rough wasn't too bad, but the amount of leaves laying over the rough made it particularly tough to spot a ball nestling underneath regardless of knowing where to look. the only upside to this was, although I lost a few, I'd also found a few looking for mine! Seems I haven't been the only one to have misfortune!
I'd recommend at least checking this course out, but possibly wait until the springtime. That said it played really well on a damp, windy Sunday. But roll on Spring and Summer - that's where this course will blossom - I'll be going back!
