What the club says: Playgolf Colchester was formerly known as Lexden Wood Golf Club. The main course 18 hole course was redesigned and redeveloped in the winter of 2006/ spring 2007, at a cost of £1m by Jonathon Gaunt, course architect. He has added another 1000yds in distance to the previous layout, adding new greens and tees as well as reconstructing and adding nearly 80 new bunkers. The greens are USGA specification so provide great consistency all year round, and the large teeing areas enable us to provide all year play without the need for winter mats.
With the river Colne running through the course and also some spectacular views the Colne valley and the nearby picturesque village of West Bergholt

Needs to be better
I am hoping the course will improve. It has been a hard winter and so wet . I am a member and I will not renew my membership if things do not improve. The fairways are like rough with buttercups and dandelions in them . Greens are not bad but IMO better a month ago ..Reviewer Rating

Tight course
Now called Lexden Woods, the course is very challenging with tight, narrow fairways and unforgiving rough. Though not particularly long, you certainly have to be straight with your shots and think your way around. Given the amount of rain which has fallen recently, the course was still playable, with temporary tee boxes. The greens were surprisingly good. Will certainly return once the weather improves.Reviewer Rating

Work being done
I am a member at this course and the new owners doing a great deal of work . If coming to play the course please bear that in mind . They are doing a good job . To rectify the bunkers is a major project and many are GUR . I think it is a clever lay out as it is not reach for the driver and let it rip .Reviewer Rating
