Needs work

The bunkers have large stones, the greens could do with some work.

Let's be honest!

Firstly, the overriding feeling you get as you walk around the facilities is one of a profit oriented feeling. Almost as if loyal golf members have dropped lower down the pecking order, behind a family of 4 that want to play "mini-golf" and have a meal.
This leads into my next point/observation. If you want turn up as a golfer, to practice or play you are cast aside to pave the way for a more fashionable clientele. From my own personal experience you cannot use the great driving range on the weekend between 11am-16:00pm because the "mini-golf" is open and of health and safety concerns! Which screams poor planning of where its located and poor construction!
This club used to be somewhere people wanted to play, now its a place that drives members out and looks only to strengthen its bank balance.

Needs rain!!!

Wow this course needs some rain, or the club need to water more than just the greens. The first 6 holes are totally different from the last 12 holes, perhaps an old 9 hole course than has been adapted into 18. The last 12 holes are a great layout with many bunkers and water in play, therefore a thinking course. The first 6 holes are pretty basic. The ground conditions are very poor at the moment due to the weather and the greens need some work. Its a long walk from the 18th back to the 'clubhouse' so be prepared to walk more than just the 18 holes.

Reasonable Pay and Play Course

Reasonable Pay and Play Course, Bunkers are very Poor and and the course in general could be manicured better, but this probably down to poor management, the Restaurant was a Gem when it first opened, but the standard of food has dropped-off.

interesting and testing layout, bunkers whilst in good positions were in really bad condition, full of stones...but I would go back.

Despite the good feel and look on their website really thought that this course was a huge disappointment! Layout is awful and very confusing and whoever designed it needs to have a serious think about their career choice! I have never seen so many bunkers on a course - thought I was on Clacton Beach! Tees are often far too close to greens and almost cross them at places, while the walk between green and tee can be long. First six pretty standard up and downs but a little tight and greens not too receptive. Holes 7 through 9 okay and water definitelycomes in to play. Greens better and acuracy from the tee is key. Holes 10 through 12 are truly awful and I longed for a claxon to sound so I could call a halt to my round - event though it was a sunny 20 degrees if not a little breezy. These holes are young and will improve with time but they are really terrible holes. 13 through 18 are okay but not very long. Greens are quite a bit better than the previous 12 holes but it is spoilt by the unbelievably long walk back to a bleak breeze block club house which is like something out of a the early 80's! Think they really need to review the layout, lose a number of the bunkers and work on the greens but there is an American Golf store which is a bonus!

Course is still very wet. There are too many T boxes being used instead of the real tees. 10 - 13 are very wet and the ground is very stoney and clay like. Most of the bunkers on these holes are GUR due to water retention. The 8th hole, is now having the lake overflow drained, which is still covering alot of the fairway. They charge too much for the standard of the course.

After the extensive redesign of the course you now have a more challenging test. Greens still need a lot of improvment with at least 6 greens being in a very poor state.

I can't make up my mind about this course. I understood it to be a 'Family' orientated centre and would hope the course reflected this, being a little forgiving and a good beginners course and experience. Since their recent changes to the course, this is a much harder 18 than it needs to be. Too many bunkers that don't drain correctly and some a devoid of sand. Two holes where the fairways are riddled with stones and a few holes where walkways cross tees.

A local course. Rounds are very reasonable for what you get. Excellent range. There does seem to be some improvement work going on and there has been some noticeable improvement in the greens.

Tight course

Now called Lexden Woods, the course is very challenging with tight, narrow fairways and unforgiving rough. Though not particularly long, you certainly have to be straight with your shots and think your way around. Given the amount of rain which has fallen recently, the course was still playable, with temporary tee boxes. The greens were surprisingly good. Will certainly return once the weather improves.
