'On the Blackpool coast and tough when the wind blows. Not the longest by any means but a typical De Vere track with tough greens and always a tough test.'

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

You can almost see Blackpool tower on a clear day and on a still day hear the sounds of the nearby zoo.

The golf course is well laid out with some nice hole variation but provides nice rewards for the straight hitters. Lots of bunkers and some nice challenge over water.

18th is a nice finishing hole coming up to the club house.

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

A good course, not the best of the DeVere's by a long stretch, but still entertaining.

Very short Par 3's, Tight Par 4's and challenging Par 5's.

Will certainly play again.

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

This course is another Peter Allis design that I have played - he has made a silk purse from a sows ear of territory given to work with. A hard but fair course, but a real beauty not to be missed - one of DeVeres best, but as with all their venues beer and everything else at the 19th is quailty but at a price.

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

Played here 29/30th June the sun was shining, what a pleasure to play this well kept and great golf course. With the sun and very little rain over the past few weeks the fairways have that links feel to them and as for the greens they are immaculate a pleasure to putt on. The facilities off course are brilliant the ninetenth bar over looks the 18th green and you can take a well earnd drink whilst watching your fellow golfers play the 18th and the practice putting green and chipping areas are axcellent. I have the pleasure in recommending this course as one to play.

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

This is a great course, Parkland with a links feel in that you get quite a lot of roll with your ball. Well laid out course with bunkers (all uniform and plenty of sand) and hazards at the right place, and if your long enough to drive them, the landing area is much smaller, water on lots of holes so you need to place the ball to score well. Greens although large are fast but receptive, all in all a great course and thoroughly recommended.
Clubhouse was modern with a large patio area overlooking the 1st Tee, practise chipping and putting area, and 18th green, staff are very friendly. Prices are a little steep but when you've played a great course why not indulge yourself in the ambience of a celebratory drink.
Due to the tree lined fairways you feel on most holes as if your the only one playing

Played off winter Tees which shortened the course which benefited me. Greens good considering it had been so wet. Well maintained course look forward to trying it again in better weather. 60 for a fourball

Golf course review of De Vere Herons Reach Golf Club

Booked a round through On Line Tee Times. Price was £9. Arrived at the hotel / course - easy enough to find - and lots of parking available. However, in the car park some other golfers noticed we were loading up our trolleys. We were told no trolleys allowed. I'd checked the De Vere website before setting off and there was no mention of this. The guy at the booking office confirmed the website didn't mention it - it was something they'd have to look in to. What it meant was we had to pay an extra £4 each to hire a trolley with hedgehog wheels. Do us a favour, This was a money spinning exercise. The course condition was fine - in fact apart from the bunkers, which played with hard compact sand the course was in very good condition. If they were serious about looking after the course they'd have said no metal spikes allowed and no playing off the fairways - but they didn't. Apparently they have different ratings for trolley use. All Trolleys allowed, powered trolleys allowed, hedgehog wheels allowed, none allowed. My advice, ring up in advance. If I'd known, I'd have taken my stand bag. The weather here over the last week has been excellent so I didn't expect the trolley thing. I've no problem with trolleys being banned but not to mention it on their website is annoying.

Course planners are available - price £5 and are ok. On the course, at least half the tees were played off the red tees so the course played very short (yellow and red virtually side by side). You could play your ball where ever you liked but all the pins were set at the front of the greens. The greens themselves seemed to be in very good condition. In fact the whole course was in good condition apart from the bunkers. Playing off the red tees meant a lot of the teeth of the course were removed. A couple of the par 3's were more like pitch and put holes and the water you'd normally have to drive over on some of the holes was taken out of play. I'm glad I played with someone who knew where they were going as it wasn't the easiest course to navigate around. It's not what you'd call hilly although some of the fairways are quite narrow in places and slope right to left or left to right so you need to think where you're going to land the ball.

I'd not pay the normal price of £40 week day - certainly don't think it's worth that (but the reduced price was ok so I'll review based on that price) and like I say I'd advise ringing before hand to find out what tees are being used and what type of trolley are allowed on the day you go. However,it was a pleasant way to spend a sunny March day but I doubt I'll be going back.
