Great Day!
Played the course 2 weeks ago for the first time and had such a great day. I am part of a surrey membership that recently included Luton Hoo to their options and I really cant wait to return. The staff was fantastic and made us feel very welcome, I spoke at length with Craig the Pro after my round and he took the time to tell us about the reasoning behind why there are no bunkers and was so friendly. The course was in great condition and loved the layout. The prices in the bar i must say were extorniate but none the less didnt affect our day.Look forward to returning soon!

As we were a society, we did get a very good deal for our 18 holes, plus bacon roll & coffee/tea, on a weekend, but generally, the club is expensive to play without some form of deal. One of our number decided to order a breakfast, which cost over ?16, (including a built in service charge, which he objected to, because he had to wait so long for the food).
The course was far busier than when I last played, but everyone seemed to be moving along quite well despite time looking for wayward balls, so the pace of play was acceptable. It was surprisingly quiet for a course so close to Luton Airport and the M1, and apart from the newer holes, we could have been anywhere in deep countryside. There is a small pro-shop, but I thought the items on sale were again on the expensive side (e.g. a metal bag-tag and ball marker in a presentation box was ?25).
A few minor downsides. There were very few waste bins around, which meant people were leaving all sorts of rubbish at the tees, presumably to be picked up by greenkeeping staff later. This included an empty single malt bottle, and several plastic bottles. There were no tee signs, so if you didn't know where you were going, you couldn't check before playing. Since my last visit, there are now signs to the car park, but it is still easy to miss these, so if you're visiting to play golf - on the road into the facility, turn right before you reach the main house, go past the next building (this includes the 19th hole bar, pro shop etc), and the car park is on the left. Go as far as possible into the car park (down by the tennis courts) for the shortest walk to the pro shop and 19th bar.
The course has hosted a number of championship events, so they do have some long holes, which only our biggest hitters were getting near to hitting in 2, and that was with us playing from the yellow tees, some on which were very generously far forward of the usual tee placements. Apparently it's over 7,000 yards off the very back, but I don't think they generally allow play from those tees.
I would like to play the course during the summer (or at least late spring/early autumn), but I guess the deals would be fewer and further between at that time of year. Either way, I'm sure I will be back, so long as I don't have to pay the standard green fee.

Fantastically challenging course, and although we dodged the rain and had a beatiful last few holes in the sun, the wind made every hole one to have a good think about on each shot. Some holes seem easy but the rough and water hazards have been put in places you have to tactfully pitch short or go for glory.
This was my first at Luton Hoo and I will certainly go again over the summer with friends.
Cheers,
David Jenkins

All in all its definitely a course more suited for the lower handicap but the quality of the greens will soon please all standards and the fact its open to the public is a bonus!!
Looking forward to going back in the summer when the roughs up a bit

Good greens
This was the day after some heavy rain. The tees were in a poor state with a couple of tees in a bad way. The fairways had been cut very short, and there were a few weeds on them. The greens were very good, they were all consistent with a nice speed, and would also accept a well hit approach shot. The rough was a bit trampled down but otherwise fine. The paths were uneven and untidy. The front nine is up and down, and rather featureless, the back nine is a much better nine both visually and in terms of interesting holes.
