Quinta do Lago South
Designed by William Mitchell from the USA and opened in 1974, the Quinta do Lago South course was used eight times for the “Portuguese Open Championship” in 1976, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 2001. It has also hosted many large professional and amateur championships.
The favourite of many tour players, this course offers the possibility to hit the greens in regulation in several ways. However, each hole has one easy route and the player who sees this, and has the skill to follow the designer's intention, and produce sub-par figures. An anti-clockwise loop, it favours the draw shot.
This course favours the long hitter, but requires the player to pick a particular route to score well. Although both anti-clockwise loops, the first nine favours a draw, while the second favours a fade from the tee. Holes 3, 15 and 17 features lakes, which must be negotiated. Contact Information

Course Information
Course Designed by William MitchellLocation
Location: Leave the airport and drive for approximately 3 kilometers until you see signs for Faro and Portimão. Turn right towards Portimão. This will bring you to the main coast road - EN 125. Continue for approximately four kilometers until you see signs for Loulé and Portimão. Turn right towards Portimão and continue straight ahead for approximately 3 kilometers. You will then see a billboard for Quinta do Lago on your left and São Lourenço church on your right. Turn right, following the sign to Almancil. Drive for a further two to three kilometers until you reach Almancil. When you get to Almancil, you will see a sign for Quinta do Lago. Turn left at the second set of traffic lights. After approximately 500 meters you will come to a fork in the road and will see a sign for Quinta do Lago. Take the left fork, passing a golf shop on your right. Carry straight on for another two kilometers until you come to a roundabout. This is the entrance to Quinta do Lago. Continue straight ahead, passing five more roundabouts until you reach the end of Quinta do Lago. The beach car park will be in front of you and the hotel is on your right.

My favorite course played so far. The first hole sets the tone dramatically sweeping down the hill....awesome place to enjoy golf. Played as part of a golf holiday so the green fee was not known, but cant have been more than 40 euros!

Nice club house with good outside area. Great course, but expensive compared to UK courses, although exchange rates poor when I played.

Played this before the North course and I hired a power cart at a cost of 20 euros. Wish I had paid the extra and hired the buggy with GPS for 50 euros. A bit pricey but it would have saved the soles of my feet.
The greens weren't as fast as the North course so maybe a little easier to judge the pace. Some of the fairways were quite narrow and sometimes playing out of the rough was a hit or miss as the grass is very soft. Favourite hole was the par3 15th across the water but beware take more club than you think.
The facilties here are far better than the North with a clubhouse and bar area. Food was reasonably priced. On the day I played thewind got up in the afternoon and it makes a difference in length and accuracy.
Good preparation would be to make a conversion chart from metres to yards as the course distances are in metres.
Overall better facilties than the North course and staff were friendlier.

This course is possibly one of the best on the Algarve at the moment, in immaculate condition. The greens are better to put on than my carpet at home.

Superb course, this is one of the best on the Algarve that I have played. We played this in the late afternoon and the views and scenery were spectacular. The course is quite hilly and there are numerous elevated tee positions that can be quite intimidating. The par 3 15th is stunning.

Played course with a member and two holiday friends. Course is heavily watered overnight so first few holes were soggy but the sun soon dries it out. Facilities first class as you would expect from a PGA European Tour venue. Would have been nice to play the South course but that wasn't available to us on the day we played.
