Second time at Southern Valley. Very little wind so an easier scoring day. Excellent clubhouse and very friendly staff. Greens in excellent condition, fairways a little dry due to the recent hot weather.

Tidy enough course good value for money. The course used to be slated for having stones on course.... This isn't the case anymore.

Slow Play the only problem yet again. Three groups waiting on the 14th, 15th and 16th Tee whilst a 4 ball are playing at a snails pace. Needs a marshall out to hurry them along or force them to let smaller/quicker groups through.
Course in good nick though, especially the greens.

Tidy course.
Played here a few times and have always enjoyed it.Course always seems clean if a little rough around the edges.
Always good for a quick evening/afternoon round.
Quite open so wind and rain can be harsh on bad days. But that's no fault of the course to be fair.
Staff always nice and helpful.
No real practice area to warm up. 2 nets and little chipping area does help though.

Course condition
Played here for the first time in a year yesterday 30th Course was superb,plenty of work done over lockdown to keep in condition,looks a picture,greens excellent,plenty of sand in bunkers,hats off to maintenence staff.Be a tragedy if this course falls victim to another river crossing,as was packed and is clearly very popular.Reviewer Rating

Southern Valley is my local course and is a good course for a high handicapper like myself to try and develop and improve my game, with nice wide fairways and a good balance of banks and hazards to negotiate which play fair to the golfer in my opinion. The greens are well maintained but depending on how much rain there has been, the fairways have been a little dry on the two rounds I've played but would still recommend this course for novice players looking to improve their game.

Track in good nick - fairways firm and greens holding. Greens not the fastest but running true. First time visitor but pleasantly surprised. Will definitely return.

A course I used to play regular ya couple of years ago, I was in the area and thought I'd squeeze in a round for old times sake. The layout has not changed, other than the desk in the reception (pro shop). While the course still represents value for money at £12.50 mid afternoon on a weekday, the quality is not worth paying a full price tee time as a visitor. Over the years it has got greener, when played previously the fairways were bare due to the heat over the summer, however on returning this year, there is much more grass, however in places this is really long on the fairways and there is little definition between the fairway and light rough, however you'll soon notice when your in the long rough as it is brutal in places, again I remember this more defined a little more manicured. Like the fairways the greens were lush, however long and slow as a result, difficult to read as due to the length of the grass the break was minimal. It would appear that they have struggled to get the course lush and green due to some problems with the grass, many of the fairways and greens are covered in patchy grass with dark green circles. The course in general offers a good variety of holes and a really challenge in the wind. There are little in the way of hazards, most greens have 1 bunker to the side, but nothing in the way of water and no tree's, just the odd shrub and bush, although as previously mentioned the rough in places is severe so you need to be accurate and wary of which corners to cut and greens to attack. Could, like so many be really good, but at present, lacks a little care and attention and needs some general maintenance.
