What the club says: South Moor Golf Course was designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie, one of only two MacKenzie designed courses in the region. Durham's only true heathland course and one of only 40 or so in the UK. At 6,273 yards from the back tees, the course is hardly long by today's standards but with a premium on accuracy it would be foolish to try to overpower the course with the driver, particularly with out of bounds a factor on eleven holes.

Lovely course to visit

A lovely setting which can be a challenge when the wind is blowing. Each hole offers its own problems with undulating ground, slopes and tight fairways. Numerous large putting surfaces challenge the best.

Cracking Mackenzie course, great value for money and great fun to play, some smashing holes, tough par 3S and holes that make you think before you drive off. Great fun

Course was in reasonable situation, apart from most greens had been holotined and we were talking about October. We were also, talking about mid-COVID. We were moved tea times to cope with clubs members but speed of play was slow in front and caused on last 8 tees.

Tricky gem

Not an overly long course but you have to plot your way round. If the wind is blowing (which it often is).then what looks an easy round can quickly become a nightmare. An undulating well maintained course. Keep out of the heather and leave your approach shots below the hole and you will be rewarded.

Hidden gem

Great course tucked away in county Durham. Has a number of hilly pats. The course was well maintained although some areas were wet underfoot. The greens were in excellent condition.

My first time here and I?ll be back. It's very hilly. I found the fairways to Be ok generally. The greens were well maintained but difficult to read. The hospitality and friendliness of the staff was lovely. They couldn't have done more to make our day enjoyable. Thank you.
