Hobson Golf Club
Hobson, Burnopfield, County Durham, NE16 6BZ United Kingdom
The meadowland course at Hobson Golf Club tests all aspects of your game and requires a full range of shots from the golfer. Whilst measuring a large 6403 yards from the tee on the first to the pin on the last and lying higher above sea level than other courses in the area, it is quite a flat course and therefore quite forgiving on the legs.

Hadn\'t played the course for a few years and there have been several positive changes to the course and venue; different yellow tee box placements on the 7th and 12th, several new or altered sand traps (however, there is still insufficient sand), numerous previously small and blue staked trees now come into play and make the 1st and 18th tee shots more demanding and the biggest change of all; a new driving range to go with the pre-existing practice putting and chipping areas. The greens rolled well and were consistently paced (not the quickest but not slow). The rough was a little thicker than I remember and the fairways needed a cut, but we\'ve had quite a lot of wet weather over the last few months. Having said that, I know the Hobson was prone to \'water logging\' and I only saw one patch of water on the course, a lot of praise has to go the greenkeepers for the improved drainage work they\'ve obviously carried out.One negative is that the Pro-shop is closing down (don\'t know if club is planning on appointing a new Pro, when Jack hangs up his spikes)

Decent course with lots of variety in the holes. Fair layout gives you the chance to score if you play well. Green pretty slow but otherwise fine. Some scuffy tee boxes. Our group of 23 enjoyed their day.

Greens an absolute discrace but very cheap, fairways good and all in all a good day out for the price.
If the greens were up to scratch would be a pretty decent course.

Very well maintained with a variety of long and short holes. Not overly technical at times but accuracy is required if a good score is sort. Well worth a look with a day ticket from £15 Sun - Thurs.

Rather flat course, which makes a change for this area. Front 9 is more difficult than the back 9. Greens are in good condition and nicely presented, the fairways could do with another trim. The less said about the bunkers the better. All in all it's a value for money course at £15, and good for the occasional visit. The club shop is very well stocked and friendly.

Played on a Sunday as had a freebie due to a county game at my club - wouldn't pay to play here as it is fairly flat and boring. 4-ball in front refused to let us through even though they were slower than treacle.
Clubhouse had seen much beter days but the pro-shop was well stocked.
For a municipal though, you can't complain too much.

played at this course 31 july 2008.
greens quick and in real lush condition.
fairways looking good with plenty of seed down in unrepaired divots
clubhouse left a lot to be desired but as its a municipal this was to be expected.
i'd suggest playing after 10.30 am as it looked as though there was plenty of competitions going on mornings during the week.
a very flat club with a 69 from the yellows.
won't be adding my rounds score, the first 18 i've played after a 9 year gap.
delightful course that i'm sure i'll play again real soon.
regarding the info above, i didn't see a driving range (never asked tho) but they do have decent putting and pitching practice greens

I've been a member here for approx 1 year and must say it's a great starter- intermediate course. Some challenging par 3's and tough long 5's. On a nice day it has equally nice views and on a poor day it's exposed position provides a big challenge.
