Roseberry Grange Golf Club
Grange Villa, Chester le Street, County Durham, DH2 3NF United Kingdom
Roseberry Grange Community Golf Club was originally opened in May 1987. Built on the site of the former High Handenhold colliery the course was originally run and maintained by Durham Council until a takeover by the members in July 2011.
This community golf course measures 6152 yards off the medal tees, (par 71), and 5672 yards off the yellows, (par 70). The course has a challenging layout offering a good variety of holes and a good test of golf for both the beginner and the more advanced player with some tricky shots into elevated greens and subtle borrows on the greens. I\'m a member of a course further up the road (Hobson), but, very much enjoy playing Roseberry Grange when I do, I\'m not the greatest golfer, but, I find the course very forgiving, the fairways are adequate and in a lot better condition then my own course, also, I\'ve found the greens to be fine. I disagree with the comment above about the 14th, which is fondly known as \"Heart Attack Hill\", it does loom at you, and will wreck your card if your not careful, but club selection is key on that hole, and I have no problem finding the green with a 5 iron, use anything below that, or a 3 wood, and your in trouble (This is from someone who goes around in 95, so, I\'m far from being a pro)The clubhouse is very friendly and has a modern attitude to it\'s members , their very chatty and don\'t succumb to the stigma of \"posh golf\", yes, you can in fact walk off the 18th with a golf cap on and go straight in for a pint, no stuffy old farts whining to the staff because my Ping golf cap is \'inappropriate\'!!!They don\'t have a pro shop to date, they did have one, this by no means spoils the clubhouse because lets face it, you can get a better deal from either the interwebs, or even golf super stores that are dotted about. This is my opinion of the course, and as such, I know people who don\'t like playing there due to it being a bit hilly, but, in my experience, if your local to it, then have a go, because it beats the stuffing out of Mount Oswald for being friendly, and better playing conditions then the Hobson!

For £12.50, some in my group thought that was good value but for me the course was missing alot. Greens were v.poor, yard markers were often wrong in terms of yardage and the bar was shut. I may have had a stinker but whoever takes over the ownership of this place has alot of work to do.

Probably a bit unfair to review based on my first visit. It was thunder and lightening and the pitch was pretty waterlogged from the constant heavy rain. The plus side was the Club Competition was abandoned so we had the course more or less to ourselves
