Poor greens and tees

Phoned the Six hills and booked to play the following day. Turned up to find the greens had been hollow tined and sanded so not worth even trying to putt on them. With the holes less than three foot from the fringe. We were very surprised and disappointed that Six Hills didnt make us aware of the quality of the greens when we rang to book.

The course itself was well tended, but with some unusual holes, but not in a good way..

Many of the tee boxes are not flat so not great to play off.

A winter pleaser

I decided to give this a go as the last time I played here must've been at least 20 years ago. I would say that things have progressed quite well and from the wrong turn as I entered the driveway (don't go left, go straight on) I think if memory serves me right they had a porter cabin on the first tee when I last played and once I found the clubhouse sign, it was obvious if a big van wasn't obstructing the sign. I haven't booked but the lady in the clubhouse said that if I was quick enough I could get in front of a booked teatime and begin my round which I duly did. All tees were on Mats, Which was a good decision as you could see all the tee boxes nicely growing grass for the upcoming season. An easy course to play quite straightforward and flat as others have said but playing into the wind made it much longer I would definitely like to play here when it is a bit firmer.

The best course I have played in quite some time

Wow!!...I used to play here quite regularly about 10-12 years ago. What a difference this course is since then. I play all over the place on a weekly basis and in all honesty this is by far the best course I have played in recent times. The tee boxes, large and well maintained, fairways immaculate and of a great cut, the rough the same and makes for interesting shots if found. The green are pristine. i do not have a single bad word about this course. just awesome, and I cant wait to go back. It is so pleasing on the eye and well worth the ?20 green fee for a full round. Amazing...well done to those that maintain it a true spectacle of a golf course!

Starting to struggle

I've been going to this course for years on and off. Used to be a standard twilight "go to" of a summer evening. Short, a few interesting holes and generally in decent condition. Haven't been for a year or two and went back last Sunday. Absolutely shocked to see the condition it's in. The greens are absolutely appalling and have obviously been subject to a disease unfortunately. No amount of sand sprinkling can fill in the gaping gaps in the grass, despite their efforts. I've seen municipal courses in better condition than this, sorry to say. The people that own it are friendly and nice as ever, but the course seems to be struggling to me, sadly.

Course fine, surprised to see two massive trees removed since last round there. Apparently they were both dying. No waiting on tees, three ball let our two ball through.

A very well kept course with testing holes for the average golfer. The long 18th back to the club house is great to look at as are many of the holes on this course, a few par 3's and a couple of par 4's are there to 'go for' if you are brave enough!

An interesting and quite challenging course with plenty of water, bunkers and strategically placed trees to plan your way around. The course is in very good condition considering the amount of rain we've had over recent months and the greens were playing well. After my round i received a friendly welcome in the clubhouse and particularly enjoyed the pot of tea and bacon roll in the restaurant.

Having played here yesterday (and regularly over the years) I can honestly say that the course is in the best condition I've ever seen it.

You could argue that the course 'suffers' from newbies who hack, slice and cut up the fairways, but I think that would be a little unfair. It's open to the public and golfers of all abilities, which is a great thing because it's certainly a course you can learn from and use to master different types of shots. We all have to start somewhere.

Despite that though, the playing conditions were excellent yesterday. The fairways were beautifully short and fast, and the greens were nice and smooth. I managed to sink a 16ft putt which did not deviate off the line at all.

After your round you can enjoy refreshments at the excellent clubhouse. Sitting outside with your playing partners with food and drink, overlooking the fountain and pond and 18th green, you can really reflect on how nice the preceeding 18 holes were.

This course is not a premium course - but at just £20 at the weekends you probably get more value for money than any other course in the area - but it has all the facilities of one, such as a driving range, putting green and pro shop. There's no snobbery or exclusions of weaker players. It's a course that welcomes players of all abilities - something a few other courses could learn from.

Will definitely continue to play at Six Hills.

The course is a good test for either high or medium handy cappers some parr 3 are long the condition of the course is excellent all year round. The club house is now a gym however you still have a sitting area both inside and out side and can get a fresh rolls well worth the money with a discount for the over 65's

Nice course not looked after

A nice course for a public pay and play but really not looked after. The tees, fairways and rough were all far too long with their respective grass lengths. The greens played ok and were in much better condition than the rest of the course. It was wet but in my opinion the course was unplayable and should have been closed. Not a lot of maintenance could be seen. They have spent some money on improving the clubhouse facilities and practice areas but other than that not a good visit. Needs a kitchen and staff to run it with some options of hot food although the cold rolls were very nice as was the coffee. Overall disappointed with the day.
