Silvermere Golf Club
The course is probably most famous for the 17th and 18th holes which are played over the Silvermere lake. Silvermere, however, really should be better known for a former use. Silvermere lake was used by Barnes Wallis whilst testing the famous Dambuster bouncing bomb. In the film and more recent TV documentaries you may recall scenes where Barnes Wallis used a huge catapult to fire mini prototypes across a lake to test whether they should use forward or back spin; a spherical or cylindrical shape; a smooth or dimpled surface. These tests were all conducted on Silvermere lake. So is you lose a ball on the 17th or 18th be consoled by the thought of all the other valuable objects that your ball has joined in the water.
The course was designed by Neil Coles and Brian Hugget and opened for play in 1976. Whilst it is not a long course by modern standards, the combination of tree lined fairways and the succession of water holes makes it a particularly challenging course. Location: FROM THE M25 * Leave the M25 at junction 10 (signpost to London (SW), Kingston, Guildford A3) and join the A3 towards London and Kingston. * Leave the A3 at the Painshill Junction and join the A245 towards Byfleet. * Turn left onto Redhill Road after ½ a mile. * Silvermere is located on the left-hand side. FROM LONDON / A3 SOUTHBOUND * Leave the A3 at the Painshill Interchange and join the A245 towards Byfleet. * See “From the M25” point 3 PLEASE NOTE: the B366 is not accessible from the M25 or A3 at Junction 10

Let me start off by saying that this is a fabulous course with wonderful facilities, but I am not really sure it is suitable to all golfers out there. I had a bad day and the course completely beat me up.
There are a lot of holes where finding the fairway is not that easy for higher, maybe even mid-handicappers, and with the length of the holes it will make it tough getting many pars. The scoring probably has to be done on the par 3's, which are generally the easier of the holes on the course.
It is a fabuolus place to play though, just as long as you don't expect to beat any scoring records.

Excellent course and facilities.
The greens weren't brilliant, lots of pitch marks and very bumpy.
