Nice course worth playing

First time playing at Portals, played the Premier course as part of an open competition. This course is detached from the main resort. Clubhouse certainly in need of some updating, shame as it could look an impressive building. Small pro shop. Practice net and putting green. Small bar area. Course generally in good condition, greens ran okay if a little inconsistant in pace, found some tricky to read. Some nice holes especially on back 9 like the par 3 15th from elevated tee and long par 5 16th. Course a little up and down with some lengthy walks between holes. Returning later in the year so looking forward to playing it again if only to try and improve the score.

Really nice course.

Really nice course. Not quite as diverse a layout as the premier, but better condition. Some really nice holes. Course is long and undulating. Greens are good, A few of our group were whining about tee boxes level but I thought they were fine. A tough challenge. 2nd cut is very long so can lose balls in there that you think you'll find!

I found the course a bit boring in places, Long wide fairways with not many fairway bunkers. Hardly any severe dog legs and the par 5's were a matter of Drive, Belt and Chip, no need to pick your way around. The greens were in very good condition but on the slow side. There was a lot of grass cuttings on the fairways, which is one of my husbands pet hates.

Good Value

My wife and I took the advantage of a short break at the Portal Hotel and played the Premier Course. For other visitors be advised that two courses that Portal have (Premier and Championship) are not in the same place and are about a two minute drive from each other. The course in places a bit up and down but tree lined with few fairway bunkers. One thing I did not like was the amount of grass cuttings left on the fairways. The hotel staff and golf staff are excellent and very friendly and even though we did not get to play the Championship course, due to an injury, we still had an enjoyable time.

Decent Track

Played here a few times over the years but a bit disappointed with the greens and tee pegs today, still a good long track but not up to its usual standards

Course in good condition. Could have played an extra 3 holes the time it took the bar staff to serve 2 coffees. Ah well, you can't always have everything for £25.

Haven't played here for 10 years plus. Course was in good condition for March. Putting was difficult on the day as greens had been treated and there were uneven bobbles. Good course though and in the summer would be an interesting challenge.

Just had a golf break at Portal, played both courses and had same problem with both, the greens are practically unplayable and ruined the weekend. I don't know if they are diseased or cut too short but negligible amount of grass on all greens making putting a lottery
