Great course but ruined by slow play!

Played in a 3 ball and teed off at 11.00am - Didn't get done until just before 4.00pm! We were continually stuck behind slow players the whole way round. I can respect the fact that some players are slower than others, but having no concern about play behind and perhaps all 4 players didn't need to stop by the side of each persons shot before moving to their own. If I played there again I?d definitely make sure there wasn't a ladies society on right before.

Great course, perfect for playing in winter

Really nice course and was amazingly dry and in good condition considering all the weather. Most of the other courses were closed or had temporary greens or closed holes but full 18 were open off the winter tees

Always a good day

I have played oakmere quite a few times over the years I've never had cause to complain about anything the pro shop is very accommodating with the tee times the courses always play well the commanders nine hole course even as the cheaper course to play is always in great condition the club house is welcoming and the food is excellent.

Could be amazing with some more TLC

This is my third time playing this course and each time I am left slightly bewildered on a few fronts, mainly on how they have formed the SI's on holes; why its scruffy in places; why the front nine greens are ropey but the back nine greens are amazing; how it commands the advertised ?52 at weekends as its a ?25-35 course no more and finally, why somebody doesn't do something about all these things. The course layout is fantastic in places and normal in other places, but what really baffles me as a single figure handicapper is how some holes are extremely low SI's yet very easy and some very hard holes are high SI's. It means from a society point of view people do not attend as they get their shots on easy holes not hard ones. Does the course need regrading ? The range, pro shop, putting green and catering are all great and give the course a very professional feel. The first hole on the Admiral Course can ruin your life or make you feel like ten men if you power one down the distant fairway. My favourite holes are 7, 14, 16 and I do like the craziness of hole 10 but always manage to mess it up. Overall, having paid ?28 on a Monday we felt the course was still overpriced but mainly because the greens need work, the course needs tidying up to command better money. I know money and funding is at a premium, but maybe you could make a point of gaining views from visitors on the course after play and whether they would pay the higher rates to play it again. For me Ramsdale and Springwater down the road offer better all round packages and value.

Brilliant course

A brilliant course and a great challenge. The opening hole is just stunning. A warm welcome was gratefully received, well fed and watered, excellent shop and the value was good. The course was in a nice if not dry condition, the greens were fast and tricky as were the holes themselves, they did seem to be slightly crowned, which meant slow putts ran away most of the time, but didn't distract from a cracking visit. Will certainly return.

I have just left oakmere having been a member for several years. Loved the coarse, but recently somehow lost its way. Fortune spent on new bunkers etc, looked really good but after one season they are back to their shabby look. Fairways were being cut when there was no grass, to me that is a waste of time and energy when other areas needed attention, the effect it was having on the fairways was a further compaction of the soil which would have an adverse effect. We did bring this up in conversation but I believe members are not listened to. Sad really

I often play 9 holes on the Commanders course after work. This is one of the most challenging coursed I have played. You have to be very accurate from the tee on all the par 4 and par 5's due to the slopes on virtually every fairway.
Approaches are difficult because it is tough to get the ball to stop on the greens.
The greens are generally fast.
I have played the course twice so far this year are scored 49 and 59.
It is good value for money in the week after work and I always enjoy playing there.

Admirals course.Excellent condition after all the rain.Greens still true and quite fast.A good mix of holes and a good test for all standards.Fairly easy walking apart from one steep hill that you play up on 3 holes. Will be back to play in the summer.

Commanders Course - I'd concur with the previous reviewer who came here with the Groupon deal. Complete scam to pretend that they were offering a genuine 18 hole golf experience costing over £100 for a 4-ball when in truth it was just playing a 9 hole course twice. The tale about being made to wait for members and other groups to go out is true too. £12 via Teeofftimes is about right for this experience.

In contrast the Admirals Course is the real deal and highly recommended.

The bar & food area are very attractive. Well worth a visit if you can get on the Admirals course for a reasonable rate.

Got cut off again, last try. 11th hole was a par 4 but they've put a new back tee in which is fantastic. Another great driving hole, as good as the 1st. 12th par 3 is okay. 13th par 4 is long. 14th is a really long par 5 about 600 yards I think. 15th par 5 is a really good hole , short enough to be able to try and take on the water with your 2nd shot if your long or staright enough. 16th is an uphill par 3 which is only about 150 yards but it must be the hardest par 3 in the midlands. 17th is ok and the 18th is a dog leg par 5 around the driving range, poor finishing hole but makeable in 2 so you may get a reward at the end of your round.

I've just left a review but got cut off. Anyway the next 2 holes are new. At first I didnt like them because the 9th is uphill but its quite a good hole actually. Driveable par 4 but very risky. Next hole , 10th ,is now one of my favourite holes . Dog leg left back down the hill. Needs a well placed drive to reach the brow of the hill. If you do you are rewarded with a great downhill view of the green with about a 9 iron. If yoiu bail out right with the drive you end up with a blind , long 2nd shot.
