Avoid at all costs

This course is extremely poor, WBC (wirral borough Council ) Has council neglected this once great course, over the last 5 years, with regular promises of improvement. Hoylake is the worst course I have ever played, more promises have been given to improve, maybe with the Open at the Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) in 2023. Embarrassment to WBC will change things, only time will tell.

Shame on WBC

Wirral Borough Council have neglected this once great Course, probably the worst course I have ever played, I am over 60 yrs so its been a lot. The course is an absolute disgrace, Green vary massively, weeds, moss and no grass. Definitely one to avoid.

Course in very poor condition fairways covered in daisies so very hard to find your ball, the greens were not the best also had daisies in them. Course could be good but council need to get there hands in there pockets and give green staff money to get materials to treat the course as it could be lovely with a bit of TLC. overall did not enjoy game due to the condition of course and will not be back until curse is presented better,

I hadn’t played here since 2014 and it appears no works been done to the greens since I left! This is such a good course in terms of layout and it has potential but the greens just aren’t playable. It ruined the round which is a shame and I feel ripped off price wise given the greens and bunkers were so poor. Give this course a miss!

So Very Disappointed :-(

This is the first course I ever played on and played regularly during my youth. The last round I played here was more than 50 years ago, so you can imagine my disappointment at the way the course and facilities had deteriorated since then.

Due to recent rain and flooding from the nearby river, holes 3-8 were closed. However, there were a number of things that are just not acceptable.

This is not to apportion any blame on the green-keeping team who I am sure are dedicated group of guys.

* temporary tees on the fairway (suggest proper tee-off mats)
* weeds on many greens
* hole 13 realigned to accommodate a car park but green entry not realigned with it
* flag sticks not staying upright and leaning over causing damage to the hole edge
* no electric carts for hire as batteries not charged up
* only 3 pull carts available of which only 1 was usable (one with only 1 wheel, and another with bag support missing)
* no pre- or post-round refreshments available
* course closed for too many days over the Christmas and New Year period

So, if Wirral Leisure Services bother to read this, I would say that this is a wonderful community leisure facility that requires investment to produce a good standard course. This has the potential to be a premier 'pay-and-play'course as well as having Hoylake Golf Club (founded in 1933) attached to it, for those who want club membership for competitions and to have an official handicap.

Whilst it makes me sad to say I would not recommend this course to others I plan to play again in 2020 and will write another review then.

Atrocious, don't waste your money

The course is unkempt, weeds growing on the greens, the bunkers have established bushes in them and hardly an egg cup of sand. The course is flat, mundane and has no stand out holes, everything just merged into banality.
Don't bother if your a female- the grass is so long on the red tees I couldn't even see my ball when playing an iron shot. The yellow tees were playable in comparison.
Besides a Maxpack or vending machine there are no other eating/ drinking options. These are in the pro shop.
Dave, the pro, has a lovely demeanour and is helpful.

colin b one of the worse municipal courses i ever played on greens are very poor every green poor not to standard at all facilities poor council needs to spend money or they are going to lose more golfers to other courses bunkers need to be addressed like hitting a ball of a piece of concrete due to a lack of sand being in them staff are great and very helpful and you could not ask more of them I for one will not be going back to play this course until such time that the council decide to spend some money they are quick enough to take your money

Tired Course

Could be a good course but is in need of a lot of work. Although not a links course the bunkers are many and deep but unfortunately most were under repair. It feels very long because of the continuous number of par 4 holes. Although some of my comments are negative i enjoyed the game and would and will go back and play again.

As bad as i've known it - seemingly not cared for

This used to be my local course and kept in decent condition, whatever has happened recently it's terrible. No care with the greens. Hardly ever see anyone working around the course. Play Arrowe Park as it's in10 times better condition.
